Games similar to Disciples 2?
Anyone knows games that are similar to Disciples 2? I really liked combat system that is there, Disciples 3 is fun but not exactly my thing... Any recommendations are welcome. And sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask, didn't find Disciples 2 subforum here...

Someone on the other site told me about Legends of Eisenwald, that game looks interesting but it's only in alpha still. By the way, combat video looks interesting. Any other games though that are similar to D2?

I have to do a little bit of unscrupulous self promotion. So my suggestion is a game I'm working on called Cohorts of Kargonar.
Same battle system as Disciples 1 and 2 but set in another environment, also it's a browsergame.

Wow, this Legends of Eisenwald looks very promising and they make it for Linux! Pleas more of that and the Dependence of Windows as Gaming Platform may break! :-) (of course thats only a dream)

RE: Games similar to Disciples 2?
Thought I'd share some info on the recently released Warlock: Masters of the Arcane in this thread.

On the surface, it is not similar to D2. In terms of engine and mechanics, it is Fantasy Wars meets Civilization lite, with a hint of Master of Magic. Though the game is fantasy based, it doesn't share the gothic dark art of Disciples either. You don't have heroes. Combat does not warp to an arena but instead you exchange one round of blows on the adventure map per attack turn. And there is no levelling up of your units into entirely new ones.

The game is played entirely on the adventure map, but it is really just one giant tactical battle. Almost like a D3 arena fight except on a global level with cities and production mixed in.

With all this said, there is one fundamental similarity to Disciples 2. Its majestic simplicity. And I say that in the very best form of compliment.

Disciples 2 had an almost action feel to it, for a turn-based strategy game. Quick pacing. You never got quag-mired into micro management. Decisions were either 'this or that', as opposed to mutiple layered options that had you brood indefinitely between actions.

And I find Warlock shares this. Though the game provides lots of options it doesn't bog the pacing down. I find I hit the end turn button fast like I do in D2, yet I find there is enough tactical options that keeps me interested in moving through the game, and starting up new ones as well.

The game certainly isn't a AAA release. It feels fairly bug free but it could use some AI improvements and some additional features to round it out. There is no campaign, only skirmish. But it's only 20 bucks.

Here's a link to a vid overview..

Looks like Fantasy CIV. No hotseat though, I have to pass.

Yep - forgot to mention that. I surprised they didn't have that off the get-go. It's not like they needed to add much coding for it. Maybe something they'll add later. I get the feeling it will have some DLC, being $20 as a base game.
