Port Royale 3 - crash reports and technical bugs thread
(06-05-2012, 01:46 AM)Defiant Wrote: For those that have the game crashing every 2 minutes is there anything we can do as a temporary measure while you "QA" the English version of the patch

If you having the issue with entering/leaving towns try this (worked for me):

-> Start the game
-> go to option to select window mode
-> Go in to task manager (crtrl alt del) and Processes
-> Find PortRoyale3.exe and select Set Affinity
-> Set it to just Cpu 0

I am from Denmark.. I ran this -console thing and received followings..
CONSOLE:
Code:
System startup time: 11.28 seconds
Game update: AppID 205610 "Port Royale 3", ProcID 2172, IP 0.0.0.0:0
saving roaming config store to 'sharedconfig.vdf'
roaming config store 2 saved successfully
Game removed: AppID 205610 "Port Royale 3", ProcID 2172
saving roaming config store to 'sharedconfig.vdf'
roaming config store 2 saved successfully

I also did try to install dotnetfx3 and ran into a problem:

I did try to turn off the other framework in Programs and Features.
But I already have installed dotnetfx4, why do I need 3rd version?
Besides it seems that I already have all versions installed in my:
Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework ...directory...
In any case I also reinstalled Visual C++ 2010 Express version...
So far game won't even launch.. I don't know what else to check.

Ah yes that should work if it is a core problem like they said

Here's my dumb input. Sorry if it's already been stated.

I have tried every listed fix in this thread.

I have noticed that the .exe has a compatability issue when I right click and trouble shoot. Wants XP Service Pack 2? I run Win 7 Prof. I even try it with the 'suggested settings.

At this point, I need to know if this is going to be resolved. Is Steam working on it? Are you guys working on it? It sure looks like everyone is just spitting out canned fixes that 'should' work without veryfying what the real issue is.

Why can't those of us who have purchased on steam be given a direct download from you guys so that we can use our key and start playing? PLEASE.

Should I contact Steam and yell at them for a while?

Did the trick for me, but remember to save quite frequent though. I still get occasional crashes, but now it's like 1/40 of every town I enter, whereas before it was almost every other time.

hehe that should work. Seriously I've spent all day checking my computer for missing drivers and trying useless fixes... Nothing worked so far. And everybody are pointing finger at each other. Like the good old days. That's not exactly how I was planning spending my weekend. I should get paid for this.

It's all great and all. But what about those that can't even enter the game?

From what I'm reading about halfway down it says that PortRoyale3 is German language version. Everything else, including the kalypso launcher, is US english language.

If you can bypass the launcher and drm the game will load fine. I do not suggest doing so, I am simply stating it for problem identification purposes. How different is PR3's launcher from Tropico 4's? I have never had a problem with Tropico 3 or 4.

After the initial Steam download, it starts to install DX via the popup ... spins for a while, goes away, and no game is started.

Running Win 7/32bit. Tried all the stuff people have suggested here in this thread, but to no avail.

If I try to install the dotnet3 as suggested, I get the popup telling me "use the turn windows features on or off in control panel". Although it doesn't actually tell you what you are supposed to enable/disable, I assume it is dot net. I have a dot net 3.5.1 already listed, and disabled it, rebooted. Tried to manually install the dotnet3 distributed with the game again, and I get the same error. No idea at this point. But I'm tired of f*cking with my system to get this thing to install/run right.

FWIW ... I'm off to download the warez version now. I have 30 or 40 Steam games on my system - all paid for. So no, I don't feel bad about doing it ...

Technically windows 7 already has all the .net frameworks up to and including 3.5 pre installed/slipstreamed into it but I hear you bro. Guy on the German forums has a bright idea though, getting Kalypso to copy the working freaking retail release to the steam servers hehe.

This is what I had back from steam if this is any help

If you are currently running Vista or Windows 7, please complete the instructions in the following link: Title: Windows 7 and Vista
TroubleshootingLink: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_artic...-IFHZ-2170 If you are running in Windows XP, take the following steps:1) Exit Steam.2) Go to the "Start" menu, select "Run", type "regedit" and click "OK".3) Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VALVE4) Right click and select "Permissions"5) Check the "Allow" boxes for "Admin" and "System" for both "Full control" and "Read". No it doesn't. But that's no reason to post it 4 times in 4 different topics.

So I've gotten the files elsewhere (as most steam people now have) and used my steam key. Works fine until I crash when trying to enter towns at random.

What sort of information can I provide about these crashes? I have what seems to be the german one, and patched to 1.1 which allegedly fixes this stuff.

Can I just say that perhaps holding off completely until your September release was looking like the more sensible option? I've no real time to play this anymore and D3 comes out in a week. It's been a real disappointment.

Same problem.

Developers where are you? I see Steam Community, a few people play in PR3, but they have not shown that they are in PR3, says simply "in the game." That you have with Steam problem, not ours. Decide!

Yet another unhappy Steam customer unable to start the game. I've got 30+ games on Steam and never had a problem before. Would love to play this game.

I have also pre-ordered this game from Steam, and I am not able to play it either. However, I decided to buy it from GameStop instead. (Don't expect any refund from Steam though). Here the game works, except for when it sometimes freezes when you are entering or leaving a town. (known bug I assume) To me it seems like GameStop downloaded the Retail version and then installed that on my computer. It is not Kalypso that are to be blamed. They have created a functional version, but apparently the Steam version is not.

If you've purchased the game in the UK you can claim under statutory right as they have supplied you with a product 'not fit for use'. Smile Just a little advice for those trying to claim refunds from them.

It's nearly 1 pm in Germany. So they should be awake. But then again...it's sunday.

Just found this on the steam support site, they finally have addressed the problem that they need a support page for PR3!

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_arti...-QRYX-2082

Its for those whom are having difficulty starting the game.

I'm a steam problem child too.
I just managed to get around the problem this way:

1. download the pr3 game from torrent. I use demonoid and was getting over 2mbps down so it came fast.

2. mount the ISO using an iso mounter like magicISO (free)

3. install the game via that mounted image, put in your steam key, the game will then patch itself and yay!

You may have to launch the game again after patch, but viola, it's working!
Let me know if it works for you Smile

-HTH
