Not an Xbox player myself but I have an avid player close by who I have asked about this and the things to check are.

1. The disc for scratches and marks - clean it with a "lint free" cloth - Glasses cleaner cloth.

2. Clearing your Hard Drive Cache.
"Locate the System section of the Xbox 360 Dashboard. b. Select Memory, select Hard Drive, and then press Y to view the device options screen.c. On the Xbox 360 Controller, press the X button, press the X button again, press the left bumper, press the right bumper, press the X button, and then press the X button again.d. You will be prompted to confirm system maintenance, select Yes by pressing A."

3. Overheating - make sure the area is well ventilated and you dust the thing inside and out - Out is easy - for the inside use an "Air Duster" and blow out the air vents. - Anything electrical with a fan is a magic vacuum cleaner and needs emptying now and then.

4. Another problem is if you have a Circuit Breaker for your power source - some of these extensions that have a built in Circuit Breaker - The XBOX power supply has a built in circuit breaker and apparently in in parallel can cause problems.

5. The hard disc is faulty - Technical Support say you can get an external memory card (unit) and copy your data to it - then format the HD - This needs everything downloading again. (With a PC - reasonably easy, if time consuming), can't say about a console.

Hello All,

I have been experiencing problems with starting my game since I patched it and added both new DLC's.

Version of Launcher is - 1.2.0.29
Version of the game is - 1.3.2.29411

My version is digital download as well as the DLC's (From Gamersgate)

Launcher starts fine by as soon as I click play it crashes and asks windows to find solutions for the error.

Re-installing and re-downloading is not an option as I have done that already 3 times.

Please help!

I have a strange problem. The game's speed gets out of control. It's ok when starting to play but eventually the error comes. The pace of the game suddenly increases and one day in the game takes one second irl. If i press esc or make another action it is stopped into normal pace but begins soon again. If I restart the computer I can play for a while again but the error always comes back eventually.
I have graphic card Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 and just downloaded the latest driver.
Can anyone give me any suggestions what the cause of the error is and what I can do about it?

First the questions:-
Does the game speed indicator change - from X1 to X10 or does it remain constant?
- if it shows an increase in speed, then it maybe your space bar is sticking on your keyboard - not that unusual.

Does the fan noise increase or do you get really hot air venting from your PC? Overheating can cause strange effects, and you say the game returns to normal after a restart - which maybe allowing it to cool down, for a while. You could try cleaning it out - vacuum for the power supply and an "air duster" or similar for the motherboard and fans.

Have you run any hardware diagnostics - most manufacturers provide some hardware diagnostic facility either at Boot or via the Net.
Try running the hardware tests provided particularly those related to Memory (RAM) and Processor tests.

It is worth making sure that your system is up to date - see my post above for the thing to check with your software.

Failing all that - post your DXDiag here - and savegame on line with a link. See if it happens with other people.

Hi Daan,

Yes I would say the problem is reproduceable with the version of the game downloaded from xbox live as I have had the same problem. I have tried to restart the game and reload the save several times and each time I am getting the same effect.

Thank you for the detailed solution.

A - Windows update has been run and no new updates were required even with Priority High fixes. (Its on Auto also)
B - See Above
C - I never had this issue before even before updating PR3, it was the same graphics card driver; in any case, if I do update to the latest the laptop will go hay-wire and this is a known hardware issue in the Asus G73 and ATI, thats why we have to keep this driver with the fix. If I update to the latest, my screen will ALWAYS have Black/Grey stripes after login. So no issue/solution there.
D - Already Updated.
E - Already Updated.
F - Bad link
G - Bad link also

Any other solution? Should I uninstall it and try re-downloading/installing in the other hard drive?

If you are going to reinstall then install the game on your system drive - I seem to remember a post saying that installation on other partitions was not working.

I would :-
Uninstall - make sure you clean out the APPDATA for the game.
Run CHKDSK /F - see below
Download the install files again
Reinstall on system disc C:

@claigy: Yes, how to reproduce it? Is this only in that particular save or are other saves affected?

I have a retail (disc) Xbox 360 version of PR3.
Everything was running smoothly until the game was updated this weekend.
After attacking a few pirate hideouts (five or six) I run into the "pirate hideout freeze" already discussed.
I tried various methods (cleaning system cache, different saves etc) but still no joy.
This evening I noticed a new small update was available (4MB). I downloaded and still the bug persisted.
After reading the boards I noticed someone suggested downloading the Harbor Master DLC as a fix. I gave it a try since it was my intention of purchasing it anyway.
And it worked. I have already successfully attacked three pirate hideouts and no freeze, no bug, no problem.

So there's appear to be a definite connection between the latest updates, the bug and the Harbor Master DLC.

I want to report this problem with the 360 version :
"there is already a town under attack " message that don't allow me attack towns or pirate hideouts. I don't have convoys ordened to attack towns or Pirate hideouts. This happens when a nation attack other nation later in the game no matterr if the attack ends and there is no more town under attacks. You need to create a Kalypso Launcher Account - this should happen when you first run the game. Once you have an account then whatever "Activation" code you got with the game will need entering the first time you run the game.

If you have the STEAM version then the Launcher is bypassed and the game runs first time - you need to make sure it's activated on STEAM - but that should be automatic.

Check your PC manufacturer’s web site for firmware updates

If you are still getting problems or crashes - then post your DXDIAG here - in tags #/# with any error message AND send it with a brief description to KALYPSO support. Then you have 2 chances to get help.

When I start the game a little window comes up with a white square in the top left. The window does not take up the whole screen. Then it says Port Royale 3 has stopped working with the options to check online for a solution and close the program or close the program.

Also I verified files and it said that one was missing so to speak. Don't remember the exact words but it was something like one file failed to verify.

I assume you have the STEAM version ? If not please indicate which version you have.
If you are using a STAEM version two things to try.

1. When the game crashes after you try to run it, try agin straight away without doing anything else.

2. Reinstall using STEAM but .... do it this way...
Delete Local Content (Right Click on the game in the STEAM Library select that option)
Close STEAM
Run CHKDSK http://www.w7forums.com/use-chkdsk-check-disk-t448.html
Run SFC http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
Open STEAM and reinstall the game

If you are still having problems then do run DXDIAG and post it here
