Tropico 5 ideas
These are some of my thoughts on what new ideas could be implemented. Most of these relate to the supply chain on Tropico. Now I know the Tropico series is a city builder game and less so a supply management one; however, I think these additions would make the game even more interesting to play than it already is.
- Guano Mining I believe this has been mentioned before on the forums. As some of you may know Guano is an amazing natural fertilizer, that can be found on quite a few Caribbean (tropican) islands. This would be quite easy to implement. The existing mining mechanic would work perfectly for this.
- Spoilage This would occur when your goods sit around for too long at the places where they are produced, used to make final goods, and at the dock awaiting shipment. For example take Pineapples, Spoilage would occur while the goods are sitting at the farm where they were produced waiting to be picked-up by teamsters, again at the factory where they are waiting to be Canned, and then finally, at the dock where the unproscessed pineapples or canned variant are awaiting shiping. Spoilage is reality in the real world, where producers and shippers have to deal with varrying degrees of it. The in-game mechanic would be that each good has a spoilage value ranging from 0-.25 (not final) that determines how much of a given amount of the good spoils per month (.1 being 10%). To counteract this buildings would get simple upgrades. Most often it would be the addition of Refrigerated Storage areas, or an extra storage facility. As well this could facilitate the addition of warehouse, which would not only cut down on Spoilage, but would help decrease travel time for goods. This new mechanic would really make the game much more difficult, and would therefore be able to be tweaked in the settings for Random maps, along with the current factors, such as political stability.
-Transport Loss This is just an idea, it would work in much the same way as Spoilage but would only occur during transport, and in a much smaller degree, say, at worst 5% loss, and would be counteracted by driving lessons for teamsters, warehouses, and better roads.
-Proper Corruption if you played Tropico 4's main Campaign, you will remember the corruption mission. This a proper implementation of it. Instead of a certain % being subbtracted from the treasurey at the end of they year, a Certain % is subbtracted from EVERY transaction on the island. From export revenue, to rent from buildings. To balance this out, Corruption of the Country would be dependant on the Presidente's corruption (ie. How much he/she is putting into their Swiss bank account) If you are using every possible mean to increase the account, there would be rampant corruption in the country as well, because people are following the Presidente's example. This would make gaining a large Swiss Account balance a more interesting process.
