I am on the level where you have to prevent DEFCON from getting down to one. My manual and auto-saves both say, "This savegame requires a DLC you don't currently have."

I don't have any DLC, and I got to those save points myself. Any ideas?

-edit: I am on the steam version with steam-overlay turned off.

This may very well be the case. Try to use the original executable and see what happens.

With the modified executable (which used to work fine,) my saves look like this. http://i.imgur.com/ulIrP.jpg

When using the original executable, Tropico 4 doesn't recognize that I even have saved games. It doesn't let me click the load game button. Also, even if it did recognize them, the game would just start crashing again.

I have the same bug and am not using a modified executable.

I'm purely using tropico 4 & modern times expansion. Both installed from the disc retail version. I dont have any downloadable content but it wont let me load any games including the autosave, my modern times save and the save games from before modern times was installed.

I've seen this bug mentioned in the bug post but with no solution. Can anything be done? This renders the game basically unplayable!

I did some more research, still cant find a solution but I found this in the games log files which I guess might help to explain it. The log files are located at user/AppData/Roaming/Tropico 4/logs

So when I saved my first modern times games and the game made an autosave the log file had recorded this with the game:

Available DLCs: { = true, Expansion = true, SpecialEdition = true, Steam = true, false = true }

But when I launch the game now the log files generated say:

Available DLCs: { = true, Expansion = true, false = true }

After I installed Modern Times then the game thought I had the steam edition and special edition too? But I dont, like I said this is the standard retail edition.
This still doesnt explain why I cant load my base game tropico 4 save though, because I didnt edit that after installing Modern Times?

Email Haemimont on the issue. They might be able to help you with a binary that includes what you need.

I bought tropico 4 modern times yesterday. First i installed tropico 4 and then modern times. When I tried to run the game it crashed immediatly. So I checked the sytem requirements and saw that the video card needs to be: Minimum: Shader Model 3.0 (NVIDIA Geforce 6600 or higher, ATI Radeon X1600-Series), 256 MB, DirectX 9.0c

and I have GeForce 7300 LE

Isn't 7300 higher than 6600?

Julia, he's right about the derailing, and the short answer is your problem is unrelated. Your card has support (cf. the 7300LE has SM3.0), so your problem is unrelated to the card. It could be something else. It might be wise to start a thread or post your information in the crash report thread.

Kokamo, you'll have to either play with modding to strip flags, or ask Haemimont for a binary with the Steam DLC flag tripped.

I just wish the dlcs would be released on xbox live in Australia, any idea when that will happen?
