Unique planets/planet bonuses
So i tried search and dident find anything,

Will there be planet bonuses like artifacts or anomalys that give the planet special attributes? Will we see a SoaSE/ES/SR style with physical artifacts/anomalys or will it be more of a GC2 style with events popping up once you settle a planet announcing a unique find.

In SoaSE/SR planetary artifacts changed the entire game, in ES planets with positive anomalys made every play through that much more replayable. SE4 just has tech planets which are very powerful but they lack other unique planet features which makes it very boring late game.


Another question on a similar vein, will there be events at all? ghost ships to explore, random encounters with aliens, epic enemys like the planet destroyer from SotS, stars going nova in SE4. These all added so much more to the game, it went from simply kill everyone or get this tech to survive as your goddamn planet destroys itself or a system killer is on a bee line through your entire cluster of systems.

I've read somewhere (screen shots also) that planets while have compatibility stats and that you'll want to terraform them, or at least some to better suit your race. And I think I saw that there would be bonus but I'm not sure in which thread it was. As for your second question, I know there's a thread with this in it, but I don't think they have answered and said anything about events but I agree they would be much welcomed!

Eh 10 days till release i'd imagine we should have more then a 'prolly' though it does kind of answer the question that atleast random events are considered

yeah seems like too little info is out for a game that's being released in less then 10 days eh. I'd love to see some more dev posts or another Q&A thread answering some of the thread topics, would ease my mind and give us some much needed info.

Well lets hope Chris swings around here a few times to fill in some of the gaps.

I remember him saying there wouldnt be anything like comets etc flying through a system.
But that its something they might add on later or perhaps through mods.

But i could be wrong on that one.

Yeah, I hope Chris comes around to answer some questions as well, I have a few threads that need answers. Thought about making one thread with like 10 questions in it for the devs to answer, thoughts ? (i'd put this in as two of the questions)

yes, chris is very helpfull and has answered many many questions..


but kaylpso is notorious for not having a lotta info pre-launch.

their are two sides to the coin, one, you pump people up, give tons of info, and then people are totally burnt out by the time the game comes out 2 years later, especially if it doesn't live up to hype..


or the kaylpso model..

don't say much, keep them chomping at the bit, but release a pretty solid game, and then all questions are answered by the early players..

honestly i don't mind the second, especially how much they directly answered questions and dialoge with the community.

Hi everybody!

Sorry it took me some days. As you can imagine, this place is a busy beehive at the moment. I'll try to answer as much questions as possible.

All planets are generated randomly so no two planets will totally look alike. There are a lot of variations for colonisable planets as well as gaseous planets which are not colonisable. Also, most planets have special characteristics that you should consider when colonising it. Here are some of them:

Ruins Containing advanced technology
Toxic atmosphere Decreases the planet‘s population growth
Disrupted magnetic field Decreases research output of your buildings
Lell guild followers Increases the income of the planet
Mekmeran guild followers Increases defensevalue of the planet
Xelshok guild followers Production costs of all buildings are reduced
Krogul guild followers Resources are generated on this planet
Seismic instability Increases the upkeep of your buildings

The ruins on the planet can be used with a special research building and you might have a chance to get advanced technology out of them.

Yes there will be random events and you will be able to adjust the frequency of random events when you set up a game. At the moment there is not a great variety of random events in the game. But these are nice little things that can be added with patches later on.

Are there any Dyson Spheres/Ringworlds or any other special total planet transformations that you can do with late game tech?

Also as far as planets... You say the planets are randomly generated... Does that mean that the planets graphics are procedurally generated?

Ha! I already dicussed this on the german forums. No there are no dyson spheres or ringworlds planned. We are staying very basic at release. You can however build planetary shields that give the planets a cool glow effect. :-)

Yes, the graphics of each planet are procedually generated and they also change over time as you colonize, pollute or terraform a planet.

I would think it'll probably be based on sales as far as additional content post release. Since the game data is XML based, I'm sure things like Dyson spheres can be modded in.

How will the game map look like? will we be focused more on solar systems like SotS1 or will we have full blown solar systems with multiple planets and bodys inside them ala SotS2/SE4? In SE4 you had a system which contained a star and any planets around said star, you had to attack ships inside the solar system. In SotS1 you just had a single condensed solar system and any ships around it imitated combat.

Will it be a 2d map with navigating points between stars or will we see a GC2 grid view?

I believe there's multiple planets in a star system (average of 3-4) and you manage them seperate and fight within the solar system, not like endless space, with everything in the system just counting as one place to fight over

from the alpha footage ive seen i'd have to agree, there are or there can be several planets (asteroid belts etc too) in 1 solar system.

I'm alright with that, I'm glad to see you'll be supporting the game after release, hate when other companies put a game out and then basically forget about it, and the bugs it has are left to the community to fix

Hmm patching alot.. does that mean its going to be a buggy release?

Or are we talking about minor issues (perhaps alot of them but minor nevertheless) or gamebreaking issues?

I hope new content keeps being added little by little too though, keep things interesting for a lot longer, plus it's nice that everyone has it instead of everyone running different mods and not being able to play together

you mean mods, because they said they didn't want cheating so I would think you can have mods on MP meaning you'd all have to have the same ones to play a modded MP game
