Julii Family Guide
The Julii Family
Holding vast amounts of fertile land, the Julii have helped solve Rome’s problems with starvation on several occasions. But the real power of the family is their ability to bend the plebs to their needs. As a rule, a member of the Julii will accomplish his goals with the support of the crowd, cheered by the common people while doing so.

Motto: Bread and circuses

Main Trait
Julii feed off their popularity. Julii economic bonuses come from their rapid rise in popularity and taxation which can be used to spur the early economy. They are well-balanced and are equally adept at military and peaceful missions.

Expand and Grow More Popular
To excel as a Julii, you need to master city growth which increases popularity allowing you to tax the people, rebuild your popularity while growing an ever larger city, and tax them again.

City and Military Talents
One city talent is indispensable; Tribune of the Plebs – Insulae with high food satisfaction produce 2 more goods. This means that each Insula you build covers the goods needs of an Equites house while still producing 3 goods for export or to feed your army. This is important for the Julii as they can create many Insulae without crime and use their goods to supply a strong army.

Julii Family Talents
The general rule of thumb is to watch the whole tree and target the talents you want. Here is a list of the Julii talents that I believe are most valuable. The Julii have strong talents at all levels. Combine Julii talents with a mixture of the early City and Military talents to create a strong character able to handle military and peaceful missions equally well.

Talent / Level / Description
Wine Export / - / 200 Denarii income when you have 30 or more Wine. Flax Export is also nice but I like to do a Butcher, Baker, Inn, Tavern combination in each community and the wine is needed for early growth.
Vox Populi / 1 /Quadruple Insulae placement bonuses. This is the must-have talent.
Eureka! / 2 / 200 research points while popular. Helps speed up research for timed missions and more rapid growth.
Thespian / 3 / Theater provides double entertainment. Makes theaters useful.
Praetor Peregrinus / 5 / No crime while popular. Allows you to pump in Insulae to gain popularity without suffering from crime. Remember to put them in the radius of food sources that produce over 50% food satisfaction to maximize results.
Triarii Guard / 8 / The drafted squad is Triarii, a big improvement over Hastati.
Motivation / 9 / Double experience while popular. Have high popularity when fighting battles for rapid troop level advancement.

Playing the Julii
I find that missions with the Julii tend to be in two phases. The early development phase is all about expanding the Insulae to increase Popularity combined with taxation to spur the economy. Later as a military is built maintain high popularity to gain military advantages.
You can create extra Insulae with the Praetor Peregrinus talent and enjoy an abundance of goods. This makes War Elephants an excellent option for the Julii army.
For the Julii popularity means Denarii and War Elephants – a potent combination.

Bread and circuses.

RE: Julii Family Guide
Very nice. I have my own style for the Julii now, but a few things are similiar. I like the new perspective. I assume this is on the way to your site(personally I hate to see a site unfinished, but I understand such things do take time). Smile
