Having Trouble With Workers
I have to hire a lot of immigrants to work in jobs such as the Military, Police, Church, and Clinics. Is there any way to get more Tropicans to take those jobs? I get the Nationalists angry at me, but I have to hire non-Tropicans because Tropicans won't take those jobs! Maybe I have too many jobs with 3 farms, 3 ranches, 3 mines, 4 garages, 1 logging and lumber mill. And plenty other jobs like i have 3 teamster offices and construction offices. Is it because I have too many jobs and the Tropicans take the easy, laid-back ones first?

Please help!

You have to get your Tropicans educated to take those jobs. Build a high school (and maybe a college too).

Try balancing your wages, perhaps the educated are finding it more lucrative to work somewhere that takes an uneducated worker, higher wages, non sweatshop maybe. Something like that maybe?

That's the whole dilemma about communism vs capitalism approach to the game. Communism side is having everyone with more equalized wages but that means tropicans won't have incentive to first become a broke student to get a 'better' job. Capital side of things is you up the wages of jobs that need a better education to incise tropicans to get their learning on, but income disparency rears its ugly head.

Its all about the monies.

I'm also beginning to think that I have too many jobs, I'm going to start over anyways. I'm in the year 1997.

I sometimes have jobs like the military, clinic, priest, and police with wages as high as 45 cause I can't get anyone to work.

Okay, now I understand what you were saying. So you initially hired the educated worker from abroad to get your population seeded (like to be an educator in the highschool and college) and then as your citizens went through the education system, they simply weren't filling in the jobs that require educated high schoolers or college educated peoples to work there so you kept bringing in people educated from abroad.

Yeah, I have seen that in my own islands as well, it seems to me that I can never get anybody to fill in the high shcool teachers jobs, they seem stuck at the amount of workers that I payed to import. Bug maybe? I pay my educators pretty well, they're definitely amongst the top money earners, yet only 3 teachers in my high shcool and tropicans are being taught. Made me wonder if I had a bunch of drop outs never completing high school maybe.

That's exactly what I do. I guess I wasn't saying it clear enough. But you got it right. I just can't get the Tropicans to take those jobs even after they are educated and whatnot.

Don't forget that some jobs are gender specific, like high school teachers can only be high school educated women and college prof. can only be collegiate men, etc. School does take some time to complete as well. Even building placement effects whether people want to work there. And I do believe tropicans can drop out of high school because I've had my high school packed with students but only earn a couple grads when it empties out.
