Land routes and owning 5% of Mecklenburg
Hi.

Need some advice.

My first game, have a big empire hubbed at Lubeck and I have finally gotten the prince to happy 90%.

He allowed me to buy 5% of his kingdom for 30M, my town map is bigger, but I can't build on the extra space - what is this for ? have I wasted 30M ?

He has also given me the chance to open a land-route, which I did, and Minden has appeard on the map. But I can't figure out how to build a wagon train - help !

Building depends on what you are trying to build - some buildings - houses for example are not allowed outside the city walls.

Minden may not connect directly to Lubeck. Have a look on main map and you will see Minden and the grey road will connect to another town - usuall either Cologne or Bremen or the starting towns. Once you have a road connection in your town the Wagon Depot and wagaon train buildings appear in thw town centre.

his mood will sink slower and to a higher minimum. also he wont blockade the region as far as before. the developer called this a "money pit" Wink

OK I found the wagon office, its in Cologne, so its looking like I'm moving to sub-hubs after all ... Wagon trains now rolling.

Menawhile I cannot even build a grain farm in my new extended territories around Lubeck - is it just there for show or is there supposed to be something I can do with my 5% of Mecklenburg.

I've never purchased land from the Prince but this link may offer some hope.

Hi Negator_UK,

buying parts of kingdoms does not affect the possibilities of building in any way.

Once you bought a kingdom completely (100%) demands and sieges from the Prince will stop. But notice that every part costs 4.5M more than the previous one. Btw, though you might think that it is "your kingdom" your treks will be attacked further on nevertheless. Tongue

You cannot build outside the biggest extension of the town wall as long as you have not generated the "extra area" as explained in the link billyplod gave you above. To build in this extra area start building at one of the new roads outside the wall (sometimes only one of the two roads allows building continuous blocks) and keep buidling directly beside already existing buildings or roads generated automatically by the new buildings.

Regards,
Cete

But the 5% I bought cost me 30M !

Can't I sit back and allow all the gun turrets I put on the walls of Lubeck to blow all the invaders away ??

Do Gun turrets do anything ??? I've put about 50 of them on this one city ???

And my caravans are getting attacked - but because the new city is accessed from Flanders, not Mecklenburg - Thanks game !

Sad

The regions prince will still attack your Wagon Trains even if you keep him totally happy, you just need to keep the Escort up to full strength. You will loose one escort per attack on average. It's the auto trade Wagon Train's you need to keep an eye on - you have to manually hire the escort. Happier Prince fewer attacks.

If the Prince gets really unhappy then he will seige your town then you need defenses.
Guard Towers will defend against city attackers - though 50 seems a triffle high - I put 4 on each gate and then research Guard Tower at the University. The closest two to the road I arm with Crossbow - the furthest two with Longbow (greater range). Then later in the game I research Cannon, and upgrade again. If you keep the prince happy then you won't need these but sometimes his "demands" are to degrade another city that you want to keep prosperous, and you don't want to.

Remember you are playing against the AI - there has to be some degree of difficulty !Tongue
