Why do Priests and Bishops Marry in Tropico?
The fact is, as everyone knows, Catholic priests and bishops do not marry so why do they marry in Tropico?

When it happened in the original Tropico I assumed it was just laziness and didn't worry about it. But Tropico 3 is a chance to improve the game so why not improve it by representing the reality that priests and bishops do not marry?

Considering that there is now gay marriage in Tropico, it doesn't seem that much harder to allow certain characters not to marry at all.

True, true

I assume that indeed is like setting 1 to 0 in Tropico 3 Smile

Perhaps they married BEFORE they took the job.

As the developers and publishers tell us so often, it is a game and not a simulation.

You might never be able to fill those jobs if they were limited to single men -- even the purchased immigrants. The Tropican women are hot to marry.

I'm not trying to start a war here, I'm just saying that gay marriage was included, which is hardly realistic for a Latin American country in any century.

Why give gays something they want (unrealistic) but ignore Catholics who want realistic priests?

Don't ask me, ask Haemimont.

I told you how T1 handled Priests and Bishops being married on the assumption that T3 would be similiar.

You now add issues about gays and lesbians. Those are new features.

In this game, the priests and bishops can marry, this is a clear disregard and prejudice with the Catholic Church!

Moreover, gays inhabitants reaches 25% of citizens one year after the adoption of gay marriage.

Actually, this is not a simulation. But it's not a game too. This is a damn gay pamphlet!

Catholics must don´t buy IT!!!

As Coconut Kid pointed out, a citizen can change his work many times during the game and if we add that restriction there will be a lot of weird situations to handle that will damage gameplay. The idea was considered but was rejected.

I believe that if you look under the description of the cathedral, it says something about El Presidente doing whatever he wants and allowing priests to marry (if I remember correctly).

EDIT: Oops, it says that God allowed them to marry, not El Presidente. Close enough Wink

Because this game is also under the assumption that people like fun, which is unlikely for the Catholics in any century.

Two issues with this pop into my mind, first I'm straight and next you seem to blanket statements. (This and the 'homosexuality is unlikely in any latin american country, ever.)

Well, there's no way for me to know you're a girl, is there?

I never said homosexuality is unlikely in Latin America, I said same-sex marriage is unlikely. Big distinction.

You made a ridiculous attack on Catholics and I turned it back with humor. It's obvious you know nothing about Catholics if you say we can't have fun. We have more fun than anyone else.

Pardon my misreading, good sir.
Regardless of how unlikely, it isn't impossible, and a priest getting married in Tropico isn't impossible. That's like saying a priest molesting a child is impossible, it still happens, but it's against the church's regulations.

Tbh Calithorne has been pushing his pro-christian agenda in my thread....so its to be expected...he even went as far to say that the 'Gay Marriage' edict is a product of 'liberal propaganda'.......so go figure.......

This is definitely my favorite thread ever.

I think it would be great advertising for Tropico. "Catholics Hate It!"

You're right. Every other group is kow-towed to, except Catholics.

A game was recalled because it had song lyrics from the Koran. Offensive to Muslims, they said.

Offend Catholics, brag about it to the media.

I think the game would be enhanced by insulting all religions, except the one true Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Can I get a bonus for the Intellectual faction by not building churches? That's be so awesome. I DETECT A MOD IN THE WORKS.

But that's a very apparent thing. Did you complain to EA about "Liberal propaganda" for allowing gay marriage in the sims? Did you complain to Lionhead about "Liberal propaganda" for allowing gay marriage in the fable series?
Probably not. Methinks you just need to actually understand that there's *gasp* DIFFERENCE!

Well, from what I can tell, at least half of all gamers are gay/lesbian so maybe that's why computer games are so gay friendly nowadays.

RE: Why do Priests and Bishops Marry in Tropico?
"Gay friendly" is ok for Mardi Gras, Gay Pride Parades, and gay bars but sometimes straight people want to go somewhere without gay people getting in their face.

Nowadays, that's not possible. Everytime I turn on the TV, they're talking about gays. Gays this, gays that, gays, gays, gays.

I'm beginning to think that narcicism is integral to the gay personality. They think we really want to know everything about them. They think they should be the center of attention at all times.

I'd like to say something to gays: Get over yourself. What you do in the privacy of your own bedroom does not concern the rest of the world so stop getting in people's face and telling us about it.

Another effect of the edict: decreases a student's alignment to the religious faction by 100% Big Grin

I would keep this edict permanantly enacted.

You're stereotyping religious people if you think we know nothing about evolution. Most of us are not Bible-thumping fundamentalists. Most of us know the world wasn't created in seven days. Most of us know the world is not 6000 years old.

Get out and meet some real people before you make judgments about them.

How about YOU get over yourself? Seriously, after god knows how many years of persecution at the hands of the religious, you complain about them finally being open despite continued persecution?
I don't complain about hotels having bibles in every room or alcoholics anonymous teaching sobriety through religion.
