About to buy it: important question
Currently Grand Ages: Rome is for sale at Steam for 34,99€.

Now, I've tried the demo sometime ago and although I enjoyed the game something irked me: the radius for building influence was pretty low, specially for certain buildings (Theather specifically, if I remember correctly);
being a avid fan of city building games I'm eager to buy GAR but back when I tried the game it's moddability and mod support by the developer and publisher was non-existant and the community hadn't been able to modify (at will) the game files.

My question is simple: is modding GAR possible and accessible? I'm asking because this is a deal breaker for me, all city building games i've bought were fully customizable, even if only by the community, and GAR seems to be one of those cases where neither developer nor publisher are willing to answer their (potential) customers.

So, is it or not?

Yes, GA:R is moddable. I've edited several buildings LUAs following Pi-Xerxes' and others' (forget names, apologies to everyone else) to increase the radius of the circle as well as the invisible fall-off section. The theater now actually has a radius to match it's footprint.

Some people will send you the files via email as the developers would like to keep modding from being widespread.

Also, playing Multiplayer with a modified game will definitely cause you to be BANNED (from what I heard) from logging into the multiplayer system.

So please, if you mod the game, ONLY PLAY SINGLE PLAYER.

So, basically, it's possible to have all radius changed?
Cheers, i'll hit Steam and buy it. Big Grin

Also, who should I ask for help/assistance if I want all buildings to have infinite/extremely large radius influence? I'm not interested in the MP, strictly single player.

Pi-Xerxes has a few forum posts on modding GA:R. Search for 'radius' and 'mod' and read through the forum posts. Assumptions are that you understand "relative path" in order to place the modified LUAs in the appropriate folder path in order to prevent GA:R from reading the original out of the packs.

Yeah, my problem was/is editing the files; I unpacked the files, i've used a hex editor but I can´t seem to find the "radius" line, I might be just too thick for editing/modding. Sad
Anyway, I just about gave up, what I wanted (radius of all buildings map-wide) is too much of a hassle to ask anyone to mod it for me so just forget about it.
Back to Children of the Nile and CitiesXL and returning GA:R.

Cheers

RE: About to buy it: important question
Couple of months have passed, I guess I'll try asking the community for help again;
Can anyone help me modify the files, for single player of course, so that the build radius is large enough to fit the entire map (for example a theatre in one corner of the map would have a radius as large as the map itself)? I'd be more than willing to learn how to do it myself so I can change ALL buildings to have that large radius, I'm not asking for someone to do it for me just to teach me how.

Cheers

I think the radius line is actually called falloff if I remember correctly.
