Maybe if you rephrase this, someone might be able to help. If you mean that no crops grow on cleaned area and farm is nearby, than farmers decided that other area is better suited for crops. Check this in farming overlay.

i know what he means, and that is annoying but i dont think there is any way to force farmers to grow on sub standard land.

I always just put quite a few farms around the good areas and 'hope' they fill most of it in with fields.... annoying when they waste land though.

RE: No farm on clean trees area.
The farmers plant as much as they can gather and leave some of the good land empty.
But eventually the land where they were planting gets exhausted and farmers use up the remaining non-exhausted land.
So all the good land is eventually used up :]

RE: No farm on clean trees area.
Oh, if that what it is... didn't even bother noticing this. When i place a farm i expect it to grow crops in some area knowing it will get exhausted sometime later and fields might move. Not annoying for me.

edit: What is annoying me is how lame fields look when they are too spread out. If we could turn on manual placement... they look better when fields are connected in rows with row count more than 1.
