Sad Going Extremly Slow...
Ok, just got the game. Updated, everything is off and on low. NOTHING is running in the background, and very pissed off...

Gaming Rig;

Processor: Intel Core i7 975 Extreme Processor LGA1366 8MB Cache CPU 3.33Ghz
Memory: OCZ 6G(3x2G) DDR3 Blade C9 2000Mhz
Hard Drive: Intel SSD X25-M 160G SATA 2.5
Video Card: Gigabyte GTX295 PCI-E 2.0 1792MB DDR3
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_rtm.090713-1255)

I made sure I bought a system that could run anything smoothly, yet this game runs at a laggy 12 - 15 FPS, I even "tried" playing it for 30 minutes and no difference.

Please explain.

Maybe because you are using an OS that's considered "beta" by most? You can't seriously expect full support for that.

The demo runs perfectly fine on my computer, both on my windows vista partition and my windows 7 partition. So I wold have to guess that's not it.

Windows 7 is "beta" ?

That sounds rather strange.

RE: Going Extremly Slow...
I find that turning off Post Processing increases performance for me, as does (a little) Shadows on Low and a lower vegetation aswell.

I have an Intel Q6600, 3gb of OS recognized ram (though I have 4 physical), and an nVidia 8800GTS.

I could run higher settings and some Post-processing, but I really value decent FPS and despise slow-fests, even superb-looking ones.

I can't speak for the full game here but the demo ran fine on Windows 7. And your specs are great so I've really got no clue why the game would be running so badly.

RE: Going Extremly Slow...
with that rig, you should be able to run tropico3 twice without lag..

have you installed the latest versions of drivers and directx?

if that is the build 6.1.7600.16385.090713-1255 then it is the final version, but this is not to be released until october 22 if my research is correct

i believe the Ready To Manufacturing build is not a final GA build

maybe the game works only on RC builds yet.

RE: Going Extremly Slow...
First thing I did was get everything upto date, been to the nVidia website. I also have the latest DX11 installed too (it comes with windows 7)

The Windows 7 I have is NOT leaked, my father works for a company for VMWare, and has a close partnership with Microsoft, he is able to obtain software from both companies for free.

Anyways Windows 7 uses the same drivers as Vista, so how come it's lagging up for mine?
I didn't spend over 4grand on nothing...

Some people still use the Beta or RC versions released to the public early, that's probably what caused the remark.

RE: Going Extremly Slow...
i am using the rc and i don't have any problems concerning the game performance although my pc isn't half as good as timmi's. so this can't be the reason..
@timmi:i would offer you to change your system with mine so you could play tropico (almost) without any problems. would even pay the shipping costs! generous, isn't it? Wink
just send me a pm if you are interested..

RE: Going Extremly Slow...
Yeah, I'm using win7 with a pc *much* slower than the one described here and there's no slowdown in sight.

Let's try to isolate the cause.
This is probably a stupid question, but you *can* play other recently released games, right?
And you're completely sure you don't have a Deskbar(or whatever the thing with the clock was called) on? It's been a problem before.

Also, try to run it with only average graphics (1024*768, medium settings, no AA) and see if that makes any difference at all(with your computer it shouldn't be slow at any level, so if it still doesn't work - we'll get some clues).

RE: Going Extremly Slow...
my guess is there is something else going on in the background that's eating up the cpu resources. check your processes to see if there is something else running, like real time anti-virus program.

RE: Going Extremly Slow...
hey dude, sorry. i dont meant you maybe leaked the thing. all i think i know is that an rtm release is a build of windows that microsoft sends out to pc manufactures and software programmers so they can make their oem versions btw working programs

and this seems to actually be right, as your statement suggests.

i still dont believe nor know that its the final one
(im still comfortable with my win2k and xp, and acually have no clues about 7)

what i mean is that
6.1.7600.win7_rtm.090713-1255 is not
6.1.7600.16385.090713-1255

-----------

the drivers are made to work with different systems, but that does not mean that they work exactly the same way on each system. think of it as multiple modular driver segments in one big archive that you download, and for each system the installer "compiles" the right components together.

thats mainly done to just have to program one core driver that works with different "interfaces" for different systems, and to save a lot of hassle for the customers that dont have to scroll through miles of support pages and hundreds of different drivers

sorta like that

Wrong. Works flawless on win7.

Can you tell me the exact version of Windows Live Messenger, taken from its Help -> About box? I want to try to reproduce this.
