Campaign promises: Do they mean anything at all?
Hi,

I dont know if this aspect of the game is bugged or if the game is just so over the top easy that it doesn't matter.

When El Presidente makes a promise in his political speech, I thought that I read that if he fails to keep the promise then there would be consequences for not keeping the promise.

However, as far as I know, I've only once kept a promise and the game notified me that I made good on my promise, all other promises that I make I don't think that I actually keep them. I figure it's like normal politics in America, you promise the world but you need not actually deliver on those promises.

So, what are these consequences for not keeping my campaign promises?

How long do I have to fufill my promise? I am under the impression that I only have until election day to fufil the promise, but maybe it's all of my next term?

Thanks,

The promises are for your next mandate. If you fulfill them early, that will be one thing less off your chest because if you the promises are not fulfilled, a lot of people will not vote for you in the next election.

mandate? I didn't know my El Presidente swung both ways.

Seriously, what is mandate? Is the mandate the term of office that my presidente is going into after winning this election, so the next 5 years or however long between this election and the next election?

Oh and apparently, I've been using one of the traits that nullifies whether I fufil my promises or not. I've now changed that to ensure that it does matter, just need to know if the above line is correct or not.

Thanks,

Absolutely right.

I think election promises are great, but I would appreciate more defined goals. Improve housing doesn't give enough details, it should be, increase overall housing quality by 20%. Or, double the amount of average meals eaten, not improve food quality.
Something quantifiable!

IIRC if you click on Tropicans some of them will say something like "I'm voting for El Presidente, but won't next time if he doesn't fulfill his/her promises."
