Overloaded Garages
Hi there,

I ran into a pretty interesting situation on one of my islands. I have a valley in between my main population center and my tourist sector, and the valley started out being minor farming. Traffic between both sides really began to pick up in the 1980s, and soon, all of my garages that I built there were reporting that they were "overloaded". I tried constructing more roads through the valey (and that seemed to help slightly), but even at four garages, they were all reporting being overloaded.

Any thoughts? Here's a screenshot showing the phenomenon:

RE: Overloaded Garages
My thoughts are to ignore it. Unless you see them really backing up getting into or out of the garages, and or they are backing up at street corners where you get lines of cars that are causing a slowdown of cars getting into or out of your garages.

As far as I can tell it's not based purely on the amount of vehicles serviced in the garage but also on how fast they get in or out of the garage. I have only once built a second garage nearby at the games suggestion which didn't seem to help alleviate how the other garage was doing.

With garages being as large as they are, it's near impossible for me to build 2nd or 3rd garages nearby to the existing ones, Im not sure what they were thinking with suggesting that.

I understand their suggestion, because it definitely creates a big traffic-jam (see the screenshot -- those cars are basically bumper-to-bumper). Is the way to fix this theoretically with a better road configuration? How do you usually deal with traffic jams and overcrowded garages, when they impact people getting from one place to another?

I didn't want to mention it. Those cars are bumper to bumper because your road system is really bad. Everytime you make a 90° turn in the road it's basically a stop sign if there are cars coming from the opposite directions. Clean up the road system and you may find you don't need as many garages out there. Sorry, I didn't want to mention your road system initially because I didn't want to offend anybody.

If you make a 90° turn in the road where there is no opposing traffic then the cars ignore the stop sign and do a california stop or just blow right through it.

And for what it's worth, there are no real stop signs, it just works on the right of way principle as far as I can tell from playing it.

Sometimes you are forced to make whacky roads due to hooking up some of the buildings, but you want to try to avoid it if possible.

RE: Overloaded Garages
It doesn't offend me at all. I had no idea that 90 degree turns cause a significant backlog, but if just straightening out roads is all that I should need, then, I will do that. Smile Thank you so much!
