I have been reading the forum for quite a while and digesting what everyone has said so far. I just finished my first 50 year sandbox game, which took me about a week due to pressing work issues, and i thought i would share an interesting observation with you all. I found that i wished to raise my popularity by a few points towards the end of my term in office, and I noticed that the bloody militarists were lagging in respect. (55 for them while almost everyone else was at at least 90) So i decided that i would do what most brutal totalitarians would do and issue a liquidation order on the faction. Worrying about the repercussions of assasinating the elderly pit boss leader i simply jailed him. However his cohorts on the die hard list were not so lucky, the kill orders were signed on all of them. I thought at first perhaps this would leave a power vacuum and maybe even destroy the faction as a whole. It did not, it seems that the supporters will move up through the ranks and fill any vacancies after a while. The plus side to all of this? Apparently the not so die hard supporters who moved up liked me betterm, raising my overal all respect with the Militarists from 55 to 75 in a few short years. Thus I finished with the achievement for having the respect of all factions above 70%. By the by I called this the Edict of Lead!

I'll have to try that on my whiney nationalists next time they start running their mouths about me running Open Door.

I've done this before, normally on the religious or nationalist. It works but sometimes the mass execution for 20-30 people causes people to become....unruly....then resulting in more executions. Of course I never care about approval anyway, but a friendly way of doing this is make a few jails and send EVERYONE in a faction's first three tiers to the jails then Florida. It will completely wipe out a fraction and normally only filled by the replaced immigrants.

I managed to complete Viva Tropico doing that,

If you are far enough along to have a secret police with a ridiculous wage to keep them there, you can arrange an accident for anyone who gives you trouble. If the secret police are skilled enough, no one will be the wiser. Imprisonment is expensive, gunning them down is "unacceptable."
What's a dictator to do?

I want an edict to convert a stadium into a high capacity detainment area

haha i love it... ive never really explored the jailing, military power, secret police side of running the island..


Im all about the entertianment and job happiness... ohh and health care.. gotta have health care !!

Imprisonment is expensive? Really. Why? I see an option to use the prison as prison labor. If I use prison labor shouldn't I make a profit or at least break even?

Simple way to find out... build a prison, set it to make money and see what happens.. to this day ive only locked up one person..

Prisoners on money-making will gain you 5$ per month. This makes 60 per year and 300 for the whole fife years they are yelling the jail-house-blues.
So... it's far not worth the investments for you Presidente! But it's a quite humanly way to tell the people your standings!

so how exactly toes this work? you lock up the disgruntled, they dont get to vote, but their families happiness goes down, so perhaps spouce, partents, children might in turn not vote?

I dont get how locking people up makes the happiness rise..

Tell me if Im right: You jailed the leaders of a faction and the others leaders respected you more?
Looks functional, but im not sure if it always will work. I mean, the people who climb to the top positions could not respect you, so you'll have to arrest more and more. Anyway, I'll try it out, it would usually work
