In Grand Ages: Medieval, trading is essential to progress and you’ll need to master its nuances if you want to eventually become the ruler of Europe.
Summed up:
You can produce up to five goods in your settlement and towns. Anything else you need must be provided through trading with other cities – which can be owned by you, a neutral ally or even in some cases a competitor.
There’s no doubt that trading sounds easier than it actually is. So here are some hints and tips to get your sabaton-clad foot into the door of Grand Ages: Medieval and its economy:
Hint: Speed up your merchant cart by changing the game speed with the spacebar!

Here are some useful tips:
  • Ideally you would probably arrange your own autonomous trading/resource system by collecting the various resources from cities you have personally founded.
    But be aware, it’s not enough to simply have all resources at hand in one town – you need to share them and make them available to your whole empire.
  • Trade routes can (but don’t have to) be automated. This means that with only a few clicks you can select the town(s) your merchant will visit, plus the goods you’d like to trade – and send them on their way. Of course, you can also do this manually – but the bigger your empire gets, the more you will benefit from using the automatic trade route set up.
  • Warehouses will guarantee that your goods will be traded between more trading routes/cities.
  • For some regions, early maritime trading is essential to expanding your empire. If you send your merchants abroad, they will automatically be shipped from one of your port towns (if you have any).
Hello!, so I was quite curious about the military approach to this game as they said in the video I had watched ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9zeaVxfOTQ ) as they said " it was a viable option" but when I saw a few Let's play's it appeared that going he military route is a bit expensive because the exponential cost of the upkeep of the units ,in fact its far cheaper to just buy out town leaders ... Anyway my question was, Is this an error ? Or is it just that punishing for using military intentionally?  Big Grin  Tongue

War is expensive. That is it.
In any game simulation as in real life War costs money, is the game balance right, well you will find out. BUT unless you have a really efficent trading web set up then you will need a 'War Chest' - how big will depend on your goals for that war. BUT as in any game or real life situation you need a plan.
In Grand Ages: Medieval, expansion is the core element of your success - the more land you control, the more your civilization will prosper. During your reign there may come a point when diplomacy won’t be enough, and you’ll need to win over your competitors with some creative persuasion to ensure your supremacy.
In your quest to expand and impress your rivals, a well-equipped army will definitely be an advantage.
Over the course of the game you will be able to unlock additional troop types. In Grand Ages: Medieval there are four basic troop types.

Hint: Assemble a well-balanced army by utilizing each of the four different troop types to take advantage of their strengths against specific troop types, and to compensate for their weaknesses against the others.
A few tips to make your expansion and battles easier:
  • Morale is really important. If your troops are losing morale, they will also lose attack value.
    So always try to keep the morale high by keeping your troops close to a city you own in order to maintain them. You’ll also need a steady income of to make sure that your loyal troops are properly paid. If the worst happens and your army’s morale reaches zero, they will flee to the nearest city you own.
  • Sieges will take place as soon as (and as long as) your troops are close to an enemy’s city.
    When a city is besieged, it will lose morale just like troops, until either the besieging comes to an end, or until morale hits zero and the city falls under your influence.
  • Actively besieging units will stop besieging immediately when they are attacked.
  • When placing towers to guard your borders, always remember to place archers inside them, or they won’t do you much good!

Even with a huge and versatile army, if you are affected by one of the game’s many catastrophes – such as forest fires – your expansion plans may come to a halt for a while. Know when it’s time to regroup and come back later for another attempt.

In Grand Ages: Medieval you can also play with your friends and/or other players.
Up to 8 players can trade and battle together or against each other for the emperor’s throne for Europe.
Before we look at the tips – it’s also a good idea to read our previous articles such as “When Diplomacy is not enough” for even more hints and tips that are sure to help out and enhance your multiplayer experience. After all, there can be only one ruler of Europe – give yourself the edge and make sure it’s you!

Hint: “Do not let your guard down.” Especially not when it comes to your capital city. If your capital is successfully besieged and conquered by on opposing player, all of your other cities will fall to this player as well.
Additional details about multiplayer in Grand Ages: Medieval:
  • There are many different winning conditions, including attaining a specific rank; a number of records; and a specific set of time, such as in-game time (years) or real-time (hours).
  • You do not have to play just against human players. You can mix up all remaining 7 slots with humans and bots alike. There are no restrictions or balance issues to worry about.
  • When it comes to human players, you can freely play against players who have other versions of the game. This means that players using Steam, GOG and/or the Kalypso Launcher can all play together, without the need of additional launchers.
  • The road to becoming the emperor over all Europe may be a long and challenging journey. But you do not need to worry – even when playing with human opponents, you can save your progress and continue whenever you like. This is true even if some of the original players drop out, as you can easily exchange the AI and players when continuing your multiplayer save game.
