Have you seen the explosive new trailer for Sudden Strike 4 yet? If not, then where the heck have you been? But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Not only can you view the trailer below, but we’ve also taken the time to go through all the action in minute detail to explain all the good stuff, bit by bit. Let’s take a look!
The trailer starts off with genuine historical footage taken from official and private archives. The idea here is to emphasize our goal to be as historically accurate as the gameplay can possibly allow – something that is central to the Sudden Strike series.
00:07 – Developer Kite Games knows the genre
At timecode 0:07 it says “A Kite Games Production”. Kite Games is situated in Budapest, Hungary and is the developer of Sudden Strike 4. Despite being a relatively small team they have a lot of experience in the genre, with the core of the team having been behind the Panzers series! So make no mistake – Sudden Strike 4 is in good hands.
00:18 – A great variety of unit-types
Sudden Strike 4 will feature more than 100 different unit types for a varied game experience. To that end, we are attempting to recreate the largest tank battles of WW2; from the Ardennes to Prokhorovka, with up to 300 single units on one map, advanced AI behaviour, lots of tactical intricacies and dynamic weather. Most other WW2 RTS titles currently focus on small-scale battles and squads, so we’re really excited about this!
00:26 – Campaign and maps to feature infamous WW2 battles
Sudden Strike 4 features crucial main battles from the Second World War in Europe, from the attack on Poland in 1939 to the fall of Berlin in 1945. Notable battles and events include D-Day, Stalingrad, the Battle of the Bulge and much more. The single player mode features three fully-fledged campaigns (Allies, Russian, German), each with over 20 missions based on authentic events.
In all three campaigns, players will be required to select from a choice of three commanding officers. Each general will have different tactics and abilities, and also have their own specialization. In the Allied campaign, the choices are Patton (Armor), Montgomery (Infantry) and Bradley (Support). See below for more information regarding generals.
00:32 – Competitive Multiplayer
Sudden Strike 4 delivers full, simultaneous, old-school multiplayer. Up to 8 players will be able to play together in the multiplayer section of Sudden Strike 4, either cooperatively against the AI, or against each other. There will be fictional maps, as well as authentic historical scenarios. We plan to give as much freedom to players as possible, with extensive customization features for each match (winning conditions, modifiers, etc) providing a platform for quick deathmatches as well as longer, more challenging contests.
There is no persistent multiplayer progression system in Sudden Strike 4. New players will have the same options as veteran players to ensure an even playing field. When you start a multiplayer match, you will choose a commander from the full roster of nine. Based on your choice, you will then receive a defined set of starting units and skills, as well as specific reinforcement options within the multiplayer match. In short, Sudden Strike 4 is about skill and using your available resources to their full potential – it’s not about going through a ‘grind’. See below for more information on generals.
00:39 – Optional “Pause & Play”-feature for more tactical depth
The optional “Pause & Play” feature also makes a return in Sudden Strike 4. The system lets you pause the action while still being able to plan your tactics and assign commands at your own pace. Then when you resume the game you can move on to other things while your orders are carried out or just sit back and enjoy the action. This way, it is possible to add an extra layer of tactical and strategic gameplay.
00:48 – Fitting combination of units is key!
This part of the video demonstrates nicely that using the right combination of units depending on the situation is key to winning a mission or multiplayer match. As Sudden Strike 4 features over 100 unit-types with more than 300 (!) single units on one map during a game, you will have a plenty of options to choose from in every situation.
00:54 – Choose one of nine historic and unique generals
In all three campaigns, players will be required to select from a choice of three commanding officers. Each general will have different tactics and abilities, and also have their own specialization. In the Allied campaign, the choices are Patton (Armor), Montgomery (Infantry) and Bradley (Support). The better your performance when you complete a mission, the more points you will have available to spend on tactical upgrades for those generals. Upgrades include extra APCR ammunitions, speed boost upgrades or foxhole tactic, to name just a few examples. These additional tactical options will incentivize players to replay missions and approach them in a new way.
