Don't you have the game?

Anyway:

Tenement 12 families
Apartment 6 families
House 2 families (though it says 1 in the manual, it is actually 2 in the game)

Houses have a "housing quality" of 70, apartments 59 and tenements 35. At least they do in my current game - these figures can alter.

I do but i wasn't sure i was reading things correcly; just rying to come up with a payment/housing scheme that keeps people where I can find them
here is what i cameup with
Uneducated- wages 3, rent 1(tenements)
High school- wages 9, rent 3(Apartments)
Collage - wages 21, rent 7(condo's)
Extras(jobs that I particulary want to keep filled and happy)- wages 45, rent 15 (mansion)

I'm not sure what a salary/rent scheme has to do with "keeping people where you can find them." Perhaps single people, but married couples complicate it a lot.

Your matrix of education required/salary/rent also has to provide for levels of increases to match the global average salary -- doesn't it? Else people start leaving your island.

Ok then.

uneducated rent= x
uneducated wage = 3x
Highschool educated rent = (2(3x)/3)+1
Highschool educated wage=3((2(3x)/3)+1)
Collage educated rent=(2(3((2(3x)/3)+1))/3)+1
Collage educated wage= 3((2(3((2(3x)/3)+1))/3)+1)

the formulae for working out rent to keep people to their housing type. Marriges go with the highest earning of the couple (IN THIS SYSTEM). Yes these formulae work

Oh, I thought that it was the total pay of the couple. I guess I'm wrong.

You set all your salary levels per building according to the minimum educational level required by the building? Without exception?

You have no problem with "outside" salary levels drawing employees away?

Marriages do not go with the highest earning of the couple, they go with the combined income of the couple. However, with that pay structure, you've made it so that the 2nd person in the marriage does not matter. You may have some problems with paying people at 3.... I don't generally use such an inequal pay system. But yes, that system should work to pidgeon-hole each category of worker, if you really need to. I'm not sure why you would though... I personally like my housing a little more fluid.
Thinking about it, you could go 4 9 21 if you want to up your uneducated pay, there's no need to keep them at 3. Next up would be 5 12 27 I guess, then 6 15 33. I guess I'm just a communist at heart though, I automatically go the other way and let everyone live together. Tongue

I was alking about the system otlined above- Couples are (in this system) classified by the highest earning of the pair. So if a collage educated worker married an uneducated worker, both would live with the collage workers. The system was designed so that if two of the same class marry they don't have enough money in their combined wages to afford the higher housing.

I use it to keep the capitalists happy.

Ah! I follow your reasoning now. Interesting system driven by rent in the zone for the uneducated.

So 2 x (3((2(3x)/3)+1)) will always be less than (2(3((2(3x)/3)+1))/3)+1.

It's an interesting concept. Really the reverse of the way I usually go - linking to Caribbean average wage.
