Be sure your fee is low enough. The locals will also use these buildings you've listed, but the fee needs to be lower than or equal to their wage. Also, if you build too many entertainment venues, they won't all fill up.

Also, the further away from the population these places are, the less likely someone will go there.

I am having a similar problem! When I first built a casino I thought it would basically print money for my country but very few people seems to visit it.

The same goes for the tourist attractions, only one or two of them are being filled up (usually the museum or the botanical garden) when the others are completely empty or have very few visitors (My ethnic enclave and spa usually only have 5-6 visitors at most in the either game).

In fact, in all the playthoughs that I did, not a SINGLE person ever visited the zoo! I mean literarily ZERO visitors! I already made sure the beauty of the area is high and it is close to the hotels but still no one ever came. I am starting to think this might be a bug or something...

Tropicans will go to the entertainment (or religious, health) source with the highest quality that they can afford. If that is full, they will go to another place of next highest affordable quality.

Tourists seem to do similar, but with the tendency to not repeat entertainment sources if they can avoid it.

The porblem with zoos, casinos, and many other entertainment buildings (The ones I've found useful are restaurant, gourmet restaurant, nightclub, movie theatre) , is that they are simply bad. They provide poor quality entertainment, take up a large amount of space, often require electricity, have few slots/worker. Sports arena can do very well, but requires a huge amount of investment (land+educated people+power)

There is really no reason to build them unless a patch improves their usefulness, or improves the usefulness of variety of entertainment.

Thank you very much broomdalf! That explains why my movie theaters and restaurants always seems to be full when the casinos and pubs remain empty.

I hope they are going to have a patch to fix this. I like my island to have multiple sources of entertainment and tourist attractions.

BTW, in some of my playthoughs people living on the island seems to be visiting the ancient ruins museum as if it is an entrainment building once tourist start visiting it. Is it normal or is it a bug?

I've also found that citizens will visit the ruins museum - if you reduce the entrance fee to that of your citizens minimum (uneducated) wage, you can have a huge boost to your entertainment score and, because of the sheer number of visitors, still turn a tidy profit. All for a small investment, fairly early on in the game.

Not really relevant to entertainment scores, but if you have the "compulsive gambler" flaw, the first time you visit a casino you will win $1000 for your Swiss bank account Wink

I don't think it is just the first time. I have played a game with my character not having "compulsive gambler" as a flaw but I still won $3000 by visiting it multiple times. I think "compulsive gambler" just make the chance of you winning higher.

Really? I've only ever noticed it happening once - trying to immediately go back into the casino didn't appear to do anything.

Is there some sort of "cooldown" time before you can "win" again?

If you can continuously get money from a casino, it might make it worth building Wink

I think the cool down time is that you have to wait until the increase in service quality is over. I just ordered my avatar to go to the casino every time the turning sun on top of the building disappears.

Not sure what is going on here, but the tourism seems a little off? I can't get any of the attraction buildings except botanical gardens making any decent profits -- they are always empty?

any similar experiences??

The basic question seems to be repeated many times.

What does that say? Is it a glitch, or a lack of a strategy guide?

I don't at all understand your complaint about zoos. Mine are always packed from the moment they're built. Often I have two of them, with the four color brochures. Maybe it's because I leave the entrance fee at the default, but I always make money at them. Sports complexes are a bit more tricky - I wait until I have a population in the 1200 range, then build one for the religious people (rich neighborhood) and one for the drunk hooligans (slums).

Not sure what to do with casinos. Never make any money at them. I usually don't bother building any.

I dont have any problems with Zoo or Sports complex, only with PUB  Tongue

My income disparity are low, min is 20, max is 25.
Regardless Casino is not profitable.

"compulsive gambler" doesnt affect Casino usability, i think there's one trait that increase Entertainment Building Drastically, if you're on Tourism, you should grab it
