Menu will not load from intro video (Technical FAQ fix didn't work)
Hello everyone,

I purchased this game off of steam over the weekend for 14 dollars and gave it a whirl, it worked flawlessly for several hours until it crashed with no rhyme or reason. Upon trying to restart the game, it would not not let me access the menu.

I read on this forum and several others that it may be a save game issue, so I accessed the appdata folder and to my chagrin realized I didn't have a save game folder yet because I did not get a chance to save a game before it crashed.

I tried deleting the userconfig2 file with limited change. Basically the original one turns the intro movie grey when prompted with mouse or keyboard and does not allow access to the menu (file size 1.07Kb). While the fresh userconfig2 file does not respond at all to mouse and keyboard prompts (file size 662b).

I have tried reinstalling the game with no effect on its ability to be playable, please give me an answer.

You need to rename/backup the Tropico 3 folder in %appdata% entirely to reset a corrupted game configuration.

Hi, I have bought the game via Impulse.
When I try to start it a pop up for the serial number appears.
When I then paste the serial and klick ok the background video turns grey and for less then a second another pop-up appears saying something like "logging in" - but I dont get a pop up from my firewall and the video goes on and on. When I delete the appdata folder the pop up to enter the serial appears again otherwise the video starts greyed out and goes on continously. Anyone knows how to fix the problem?

Just an update:

Disabling the firewall does not help - just sometimes the counter in the pop-up counts to 6 before fading.

1. Click Windows Start Button
2. Choose "Run" (XP)/Highlight "Search" (Vista/7)
3. Enter "%appdata%" (without quotes), hit Enter
4. Locate the folder "Tropico 3" or "Absolute Power"
5. Copy the folder to a backup location (e.g. your Desktop)
6. Delete the folder entirely
7. Restart the game

You can retrieve your savegames, campaign progress and achievements by restoring the folder 'Saves' and the file 'arculat' from your backup.
