RE: Tropico 3 "Absolute Power" Announced - First Screenshots
It all sounds well and good but are you ever going to do something with the terrain tools such as a bulldozer to level or be able to build tunnels to get through mountains ?.
This is a great game but more needs to be done with the terrain.Thanx

Things I Like:
- I like the Wind Turbines I saw in one of the screen shots. It is nice to see that we will be provided a "greener" option for power plants. Also, these wind turbines I'm sure will have a smaller footprint, allowing for easier placement on islands. Right now on large islands with limited space, finding a place to put a big hulking power plant is a problem. Glad to see it addressed.
- I like that it seems entertainment options are being expanded, perhaps we will be able to set something as being intended for tourists vs. tropicans? That would be REALLY nice to see, so that our populations do not do so much mingling.
- Landmarks. Awesome. This is something that has been missing, something to add a unique flavor to an island.
- I am excited at the prospects of what looks like expansion to the military side of the game... I see in the screenshots large Satellite dishes, which i am assuming are there as military satellite receivers? Also, that missile silo intrigues me.
- I applaud the addition of a second road type to add some variety and give something more appropriate for the rural areas of the island.
Things I DON'T Like:
Most of this list will deal with things that I feel are missing from this expansion that should have been added (or just have not been revealed yet)
- In the expansion, you are including a lower capacity gravel road, as well as smaller garages (which I assume will also have lower capacity). What about higher capacity roads? We really could use some more expensive but higher capacity options to help with the gridlock current players are facing on their larger islands. Avenues would have been nice. They could take up more space, but have 2 travel lanes on each side, as well as maybe a turning lane in the middle. I feel this is a huge oversight.
- Helipads. Something that should have been added a long time ago. Either for tourism purposes, or for the rich to get around. What good is having a beautiful island, if you can't make tourists pay out the ass to fly around it and check it out.
- Adding a faction to sandbox modes as "prevalent" is nice. But how about the ability to make one a "minority"? It would certainly make for more interesting scenario options if say we could lead a capitalist island where communism has little to no pull. Also, it isn't clear if we will be able to select the prevalent faction or if it is randomly assigned.
[...]
I totally agree with Fritopatata!
I would love to see more agricultural buildings... And a court!!!
I want a court!

The first Tropico had this. You could plant trees, and they got bigger after a few years.
I would like to agree with others in this thread requesting a map editor. It would be especially nice for little things like making a road go over a hill. Although, in the original, the map editor wasn't actually part of the game; it was an unfinished development tool that the developers let us play with. (Certain options that it provided could crash your game; you just had to know which they were.)

Does the vegatation change over the years? It all seems very static to me? It may be that it's too difficult to program flowers that bloom and trees and bushes growing?
None the less, enjoy the game and looking forward to the new expansion.
Yep - a map editor would be cool. All my islands in the sand box are basically round with water forming the shape. No long a narrow ones? Also, all my "mountains" are pretty much flat on top. This is kind of good because it's still productive land, but I've yet to see a "pointed" mountain top.
Speaking of mountains - my Tropicans seem to teleport up or pass through some unseen passage rather than walking or climbing up the side. Beam me up Scotty :-)

Just to say TimB has a great idea! But I disagree with it, just because, except for the pure beauty of the eyes, there is no interest in applying it. Except I would love but LOVE the idea of growing trees!
Now I want to say I am very disappointed by Timo, member of the team, because I sent him a Personal Message (the most polite I can do, I hope) and he didn't answer even to say he's too busy! It is unacceptable!
So, Timo, if you take a look here, you should see I live in sadness because of your unansweringness.
Hey folks! I invite you to take a look on my thread: http://forum.kalypsomedia.com/showthread.php?tid=4097 because I want more feedbacks on my ideas, and corrections!
Greetings to all,
ChOmuno.

And yes, I was referring to the PC version of the expansion for downloads.
i love the idea of gravel roads, and small garages.. But is there any chance we can get a rural parking lot? I would much rather have a parking lot for farms and far off places vrs a garage, or perhaps a small parking lot with a few cars/trucks and a small shack that the cars come out of..
sounds like a great deal for just 20 bucks.. thats what my lunch today costs.. the expaintion pack i can enjoy for years to come !
Im very glad your making an expantion
Ohh another thing i thought about, what about a gardner? you know to trim bushes, plant shrubs, trim trees. this would help a ton in making our islands beutiful
Is there any update to roads? sometimes placing these are just so impossible, like getting the turns right to go around rocky passes and such. Perhaps some premade curves, partial curves, semi circles, and perhaps a rotery. I cant count the times ive cursed trying for 10 mins to get a road right, after deleting the thing 30 times. Its not fun game play, its very frusterating

I hope it (and I'm refering to things as broken challenge editor functions, its lacking documentation, exploits like endless gambling of El Presidente in the Casino or the effect of short-time wage increases on elections...just to name a few), but I don't count on it. Normally, such things tend to get fixed with patches. An Add-On of courses often acts as a patch as well, but the feature list of the Add-On does not seem to specifically target solving problems of the vanilla game for my taste - stuff is added, but I fail to see which problems it should solve. Don't get me wrong - I like the idea of introducing wind energy as alternative energy source for example, but I don't see a problem with the old style power plant (ok, you can't have energy without pollution ATM - but the down side of a clear energy source is that the game will become even easier. I hope that windmills are at least designed in the way that you have deal with their fluctuating output and the connection to elevation)

Wow, cool! I don't even have T3 yet, but I played the demo and it was freaking awesome. I'm now surely going to buy it!
Nice to see that this game actually is being updated and the makers are posting on this forum aswell, lol.
