Is it like farms where u should have it on the red part (non fertile area) or do u need it on the yellow/orange part?

It doesn't particularly matter, they mine every piece of resource until it is depleted.

Try to place it according to fertility. Often, the land that needs to be mined is right under very fertile land (especially cash crops like tobacco). As long as the mine is close to the deposit, it will work.

i think there was a thread not more than a month ago about this, and some guy tested it and found it to be more productive to actually put the mine right in the middle of the resource... search out that thread to be sure... was like the same subject title i think.

(not the same for farms!)

That only works for farming, not so with mining. It is always best to place it directly on the mines for maximum output. See this posting by Adekyn. http://forum.kalypsomedia.com/showthread...9#pid33859

What I meant is that the mineable land is often fertile so you don't want to cover that fertile land with a mine. It may not be the most efficient at extracting the mineral resource but a trickle of minerals and crops is usually better than rapidly exhausting the resource.

They mine every mineral, even those underneath the mine. If you build it beside the mineral deposit it just takes miners longer to walk over to the minerals and dig. That doesn't substantially change the time taken to extract the minerals, but you might as well do it the most efficient way and that is to build the mine upon the mineral deposit.

If you place the mine on the land tho, wait for it to be depleted, then you have full fresh fertile land, when your others will probs be turning orange by then.
