Hey guys,

Every time I try to start my game I get this error:

"This application has failed to start because binkw32.dll was not found. "

Have any of you had this issue or know a fix for it?

Reinstall the game? binkw32.dll should be in C:\Program Files\Kalypso\Tropico 3 (or wherever you installed it) as installed by the installer. If the installer offers it, you might be able to repair the install. You may want to backup saves and configuration which is stored in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Tropico 3 first.

This is my second time reinstalling it and I haven't even had a chance to play it yet.

Did the install complete successfully? There were no problems?

Check the install directory: 1) Is tropico3.exe there and 2) is binkw32.dll there?


If you have more than one optical drive in your computer, try installing from the other optical drive.

Yes they are both there, I only have one optical drive. When I installed I had no problems.

Try double-clicking on tropico3.exe. It should work...

If it works, the link you were using previously is bad (working directory incorrect). Right-click on tropico3.exe and click on "Create Shortcut." It will most likely place it on the desktop. Move the shortcut to where you want it if it creates it in the same directory. Use that shortcut to start the game.

If it doesn't work, make sure binkw32.dll is not zero-length. You can figure out how large it is by right-clicking on it and selecting properties.

It works now. I just clicked on the .exe within the program file itself and it worked fine. Even though I copied and pasted the .exe to my desktop straight from the program file it would not work before. idk why, but it works now! Thank you!!!

I meant to create a shortcut, not copy the executable itself. Shortcuts have the little arrow in the corner. Instructions on how to make a shortcut are in my previous post.

This will solve your dll file problem. as I registered few dls from this site as it is free...worked in my case.
