Oil and the Cannery
A silly question but.....

I see the commodity Oil Products in the Almanac but unsure who makes them.

I am pressuming that the Cannery is where the Oil goes but last night I could not get it to work.

Is this correct or have I missed something somewhere?

Cheers

OIl products are made buy placing a Refinery. The Cannery will can goods such as fish, pineapple, and coffee.

When selecting a building in the build menu, there's some text on the clip board that appears before selecting it (as you highlight it) which will tell you what resources it will produce, or are needed as well as whether it needs power(and how much) The only info that doesn't appear is what education group it requires to operate it. Cannery is high school, a refinery is college.
Hope that saves you some time.

Oil is extracted from oil wells or rigs. If you have an Oil Refinery your teamsters will transport crude oil to the refinery to be converted into oil products, if you don't have a refinery, crude oil will be transported to the dicks for export.

Oil rigs are automatically spawned when you build the refinery.

The cannery is used to produce canned coffee, pineapple and fish

Enjoy digging up that black gold Cool

Plastic bags. From Wal-Mart. I like my oil to come in bags with yellow smily faces on them. Because having oil makes you happy. Smile

RE: Oil and the Cannery
hehe.. i never looked at it like that...

But yea, oil going to a cannery makes perfect sence,, except in tropico they are all food canneries..

Ohh thats an idea.. refine the oil, THEN send it to a cannery for final packaging!

Does your car run on tropico 10/40? If its good enough for el presidente its good enough for me!

you dont own a car do you... Or atleast didnt before the year 2000.. Oil was shipped in tin cans for many many many years.. If you refined it, sent it to the cannery, Its compleatly plausible they could pack it for local distribution.. or even far off. Not every country in the world has there own oil distrubution network

RE: Oil and the Cannery
car oil |= crude oil

just like olive oil isnt crude oil. "oil" isn't one thing, which is why every type of oil has a preceding descriptor.

RE: Oil and the Cannery
I never said it did.. But the OP's thinking, really does have merit a refinery+cannery (if done with oil) would equal car oil.. Perhaps finally add pull downs on our industry to only process one item. Maybe then we could run an effeicent cannery, and get that tuna plant working finally. On many islands i dont want to export certain types be it pineapple, coffee, or fish. I wouldnt mind corn and papaya options as well.

the typical car oil comes from crude, vrs the 1000's of other things that make oil. In reality any organic can make oil. The main difference is how effceintly can you get mass amounts of it. Soylent green?(yes i know thats not oil). but car oil is crude and a petro product and id i hope that cannery doesnt process food too! But in reality the only difference between that and oils you harvest now is about 100+ million years and trillions of lbs of presure.

I see zero reason why tropico couldnt produce oil for your car, or gasoline, or any number of other petro products with more refining.

And that leads to another idea about an edict.. and new building.. *cough expansion.. Gas station, do you run on import oil, home refined, or switch to the eco freindly ethenal.. Hope your growing a ton of corn..

hehe Smile

looks like i was in a grouchy mood the other night... it was a silly question for sure, but also an easy enough mistake to make...

i just get a bit tetchy with net people who think that they are of superior intelligence to the rest of us and have to point out other peoples mistakes..... it gets on my tits and puts me off posting most times Sad

anyway now that's out the way...

....i do like the idea of a petrol station as a new building, after all the tropicans have to get around somehow so adding petrol stations would be a neat idea Smile

You repeated the word "they"! Also, "peoples" is possesive so needs an apostrophe.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

edit> Also, i should be a captial.

It’s postings like this that make a forum hostile. Some of us post by other means than a computer keyboard, where it is easy to catch some mistakes. Your remark is just plain childish... especially as a newcomer. You will now find people looking at your postings with a fine tooth comb. Was is really worth it. You couldn’t resist, but you should have for the peace of the forum, and it’s members.Sad

When you write edit>. It should look like this Edit: not (edit>). The < > means more than, less than, and is improperly used in your post. Edit, should have been capitalized. Now do you see what I mean?Wink I’m just making a point. We don’t need another grammar teacher here. We had enough of them.

I couldn’t resist either, but was provoked.

Maybe your initial question was (I didn’t think so, by the way), but spelling, and grammar should be left alone. People that live is glass houses, shouldn’t throw stones as Dexter did toward you with his improper use of words, and symbols. I won’t derail the thread further. Enjoy the game.

I must admit that my grammar is pretty poor, especially when I'm posting on the forums. I used to pay particular attention to eveything I posted years ago but have got lazy in the later years.

Sadly I have dyselixa and that in itself can be a nightmare. When I have to create a proper letter for a job app etc I always make sure that everything is in order. I have to proof read everything I do 50 times to make sure that I haven't made any mistakes, even then things slip through the net and I spot a mistake a few days later. Quite a source of embarrassment really, but we all have our crosses to bear. Big Grin

Tyroq, best thing then is to keep quiet and don't let on to everyone else Wink

cheers to you guys....

happy gaming Smile
