VIPs to visit the island
Just thought abt this feature and wondering if anyone had proposed.

You could issue the edict 'Papa visit' but where was he? Did you see him stepping onto the dock and visiting the Cathedral comforting the worried and poor Tropican inhabitants?

For the edicts related to tourism, some VIPs like Birtney Spears or Michael Jackson or Madonna, Schwarzenegger, Bruce Lee,etc and etc ould pay a visit doing some charity and increase tourism rating.

For the diplomacy, El Presidente would invite Reagan or Brezhnyev (were they the leaders of U.S and U.S.S.R during the cold war, correct me plz if I was wrong) and why not? At that time the role of the airport will be more important than as it as of now (just for receiving common tourist noobs)

Is my proposal making the game more excited ?

I mean the VIP under definite figures will visit the island not only edicts.

We can see them walk around on the streets.

Britney Spears wasn't even born in the 1950's, so good luck with that.....

Michael Jackson was barely learning to talk in the 1960's, so good luck with that.....

Schwartzenegger was still, for all intents and purposes, a nobody back in the 1970's, so nobody would bat an eyelid if he visited Tropico during that period.....

Bruce Lee died in 1973, so good luck trying to get him to visit your island in the 1980's.....

Reagan wasn't the President until the 1980's.....

Brezhnev was only in office from 1977 to 1982.....

Celebrities are a bad idea in my opinion. The Pope is an exception, as he is never mentioned by his specific name.

Original Tropico and Tropico 2 player. Keeping the Military Junta going strong since 2001.

RE: VIPs to visit the island
It would be a nice touch if the Pope, Pan-American Games and Mardi Grass edicts had animations. It's quite dull having a Mardi Grass with no parades on the streets. And it would be great to see the Popemobile arriving at the airport, then going to the palace, cathedrals and so on Big Grin The code for crowd gathering seems to be already in the game, as the balcony speeches show, so... Big Grin

EDIT: Now wikipedia tells me that the popemobile dates from 1978 onward Sad But I for once wouldn't mind the anachronism Tongue

I think it's not difficult to add this feature to game as the game mechanics has got it.

VIPs' animation and action will be similar to tourists and El Presidente. They visit and boost rating for a while then move back to the dock or airport and go home.

I guess that BlackXcalibur already handled it, but, wow. Just, wow. Since you requested a correction, here you go (assuming that the Cold War started immediately after the end of WWII and ended with the collapse of ComEcon in 1991, both of which are debatable).

US: Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush (the first one)

USSR: Stalin, Khrushchev, Brezhnev, Andropov, Chernenko, Gorbachev

(If we wanted to get really technical, the Soviet list could also include Malenkov for two weeks in 1953 and Ivashko for two weeks in 1991.)

Heh, you just dated yourself.. You realize the guy probably wasnt born till clinton was in office.. and thats not even on your list lol

But the idea is neat, though you would have to code timelines in, like edtics only active durring certain years.. could be neat though.

I like this idea but as someone briefly mentioned before i would say that it would be better if it was only titles who visited not specific people i.e. rather than an individual like Nixon or Reagan just have the title of the US President with just a random avatar. Other visitors could be presidents from other countrys, a Monarch (King/Queen) or the Pope. Could be a good way to improve relationships between nations and each could have their own style; like unique parades etc.

yea.. true.. But i mean come on.. it would be fun to get a pop star, tv star, reporter, talk show host, athelete from different era's.. definatly be more work, but really could add a little spin to things..

get elvis, casino rating boom in the 70's, a TV anchore, send walter kronkite in the 80's, 90's send in madona, ealry 90's get the new kids on the block. Could be quite humorus.. though it would be even better to pick some starts from around the world, im sure europe had some we americans dont know about. could be kinda neat for a cross cultural thing.
