Well, only half or less of those quotes are from dictators, but they set the tone.

Which reminds me that I still haven't tried my luck as dictator in the game yet. Talk about cognitive dissonance.

It is great! I have created all sorts of dictatorships when playing Tropico 3, the most interesting was the 'Intellectual dictatorship' that I once created; I kept the intellectuals happy with plenty of educational buildings and jobs, as well as enacting edicts that pleased the intellectuals. I had elections, but in reality my main opponents had a habit of 'disappearing'.

For your first dictatorship, you should try setting up a 'Communist-Military' dictatorship, as those are often the easiest to maintain, as the Communist and Militarist factions make up a large chunk of your population. It costs a lot in terms of housing, healthcare, and maintaining the military, but your grip on power should remain pretty secure.

Original Tropico and Tropico 2 player. Keeping the Military Junta going strong since 2001.

I really have to try that. It will be interesting to see what the difference between not having elections, having rigged elections, or just eliminating opponents will be. I hope these are viable game paths.
