Patrician 2 graphics problem.
Me and a friend are trying to play Patrician 2 over a network(using Hamachi) and keep getting a 'Please Insert Patrician II CD' error when we try to start a game.
We both have cds inserted and we're both patched to v1.1. What's wrong?
-Edit-
*We fixed the CD problem by using a no-cd crack. Odd that we'd have to resort to that. Graphics issue makes the game unplayable though, help with it please!*
My friend also has that issue with the graphics where the screen looks like its melting, kind of (a billion lines, shifting colors is how he described it). I remember this being somewhat common but I can't remember the fix.

The bink video is a problem for earlier windows versions. A solution was to disable the Bink Video altogether. Right-click on the program icon (short-cut) on the "Start" menu and choose "Properties" from the menu. Then choose the "Shortcut" tab and type the desired option behind the destination. Like this:
"C:\Programs\PATRICIAN II\Patrician2.exe" /nointro
(don't place the option within the quotes.)
/nointro
In order to prevent the playing of the intro video at start, use the addition "/nointro".
Now, this might also help:
/norescheck
Ignores the resolutions checked by P2Setup and will provide all resolutions in the game options screen. However, the game may crash if the selected resolution is not supported by your video card.
We're both running XP, and I'm not referring to the Bink video issue, we managed to bypass that by ending the process via cntrl-alt-delete.
It's a graphics problem while playing the game itself, the screen turns into a bajillion different colors and the game slows down incredibly, making it unplayable.

RE: Patrician 2 graphics problem.
Both of us have the latest drivers, and our monitors have always run at the resolution we picked(the max one). No other games had problems with the resolution in question(it's 1280xsomething, I forget).

RE: Patrician 2 graphics problem.
Try lowering your resolution then, instead of increasing it. And check the frequency of the refreshrate of your monitor.
If not mistaken the maximum resolution of Patrician II was 1024 x 768. Patrician III could support one step higher because it was released a bit later.
What's also important is the refreshrate of your monitor. Having it set too high to support a certain resolution and it'll give problems like black spots, followed by black screens and eventually the graphics card rebooting to a lower resolution it can support at that refreshrate.
Common rule is that above 1020 x 1200 your refreshrate needs to be 60Hz.
And finally: what's the temperature of your GFX card's CPU? If that one's getting too high, you also are getting problems with screen problems.
Mind so, a GFX card getting high temperatures might be caused by a high standard modern game, while the problems begin to show with a lower standard game.
