Well the topic tittle says it all I can't make a speech and thus loose the elections in one of my final years in office. Frustrating or is there a reason for this:

No I'm worried as to why I can't select anything except cancel, seems like a bug to me..

Isn't that just because you havent 'clicked here to...' yet?

I'm pretty sure you can't issue the speach until you choose an issue to address, a group to praise and a promise to make, although you can choose 'nothing' as an option.

BTW, Fr8monkey is right, your gonna loose the election anyway with 105 - 389.

You can't ISSUE until you choose a hot topic, a faction to praise, and a promise to make.

Look at the year.

I think he is fully aware of how to issue a speech.

Then why not include a screenshot that has the required items filled out? And how do you lose that late in a game 105 to 389?

PainlessDocM, as others have stated, you need to choose a topic, praisal and promise before you can issue the speech.

What would be the point of such a speech? Getting support for nothing and without a trade-off?

Might as well cancel then, since you'd be giving a speech that has no effect.

I have had the same problem. The problem is that NOTHING HAPPENS when you click on either of the click here lines. You can only cancel :S

Do any of you have a savegame from just before such a speech with no options available and can send it to support@kalypsomedia.com? Your save games are stored in %appdata%\Tropico 3

Hi, sorry I haven't checked here in a while, I am aware of the method. I just couldn't click on anything except cancel. And it has happened again in the meanwhile .

When you have chosen "cancel" (since you don't have any other option) and you do win the elections, the exact same thing happens when the next elections are held...

I will provide you with a save game next time the issue appears. Glad you are willing to look into this potentially game breaking bug.

PS I don't recall having this problem with vanilla Tropico 3.

edit: I am using the Steam version of both Tropico and AP
on this system if that is of any help:

Vista X64
Core i7
6 GB ddr3
ati4890 (latest drivers)

I could also add a dxdiag if necessary.

New election problem, this is one of those "can't choose anything but cancel elections", but they seem to go on forever.. started in 1976

And indeed they do go on forever, I get asked to write a speech while the previous elections are not yet 'completed'.., however this time I can write a speech ...




I saved at this point but can't find "%appdata%\Tropico 3"

It has happened to me aswell. It was on La chupacabra map, the election speech window opened at the same time as one of the mission scenario messages came up.

I couldn't issue any orders, I saved and reloaded but it still didn't clear.

Any advice? The game is unplayable like this with multiple non stop elections. I would send a save game If I knew where to find them..

My Dxdiag since everybody adores those:

Press Windows-Key+R, enter %appdata%, hit enter and locate the 'Tropico 3' folder.

I am having this same issue. Can't choose any of the things in a speech, it highlights red like I can click it when I mouseover, but clicking does nothing.

I really enjoyed giving speeches. Any news on how to fix this.

Also I have the steam version of both Tropico 3: Steam Special Edition and Absolute Power.

Side note; if I was going to lose that bad in an election, I'd up the pay on all my soldiers and start a genocide of non-supporters.

Or just declare Martial Law. But I still need help with this issue. I'd rather not have to roll back to a way earlier save.

Has there ever been an update regarding this particular glitch?

It just happened to me while playing "The Toady". After the President that I serve (like a toady) dies in 1979, elections are held in the early 1980s. Well... there is a message that says how the President's supporters are running another of former President's advisers as a candidate, who is my opponent.

Since I'm also one of the former President's advisers could it really be considered a Primary as oppose to General Election? (Going off tangent).

So here I am, ready to jump into the race with a speech, when... exactly the same symptoms like many people described above showed up:

1/ I can hower with my mouse over the selection when the 'Speech Menu' shows up, and it turns red, but I can't select anything. Clicking the mouse doesn't work. (Both buttons). I keep pressing the button to get into that other screen that gives you the options of hot issue to address, but at that moment as if the mouse button just doesn't work for some reason.

2/ In fact the only option is to proceed to elections without a speech.

3/ Another election is set off simultaneously, so you have two elections running side by side. One is real, the other is bogus that keeps showing the numbers until the end of the game.

It was frustrating. After going to election without speech, it was 112 vs 106 votes for me. If I could use the speech I could swing 10 to 15 more votes to me which would give me a more comfortable lead. Instead for the whole on 1981 I had to walk on eggshells lest those 6 votes decide to swing into my opponents favor. I felt like Mitt Romney for awhile.

So any chance Kalypso will patch this up? Or have they pretty much given up?
