I'm not seeing the pause button?

I don't want to pause the game so I can go to the bathroom - I want to pause the game so that I can review viewing statistics, demographics, budget, build an addition to my studio, etc.

If I press escape during gameplay - I simply get the menu screen floating around which doesn't allow me to view any statistics, and all I see on my PDA are 'fast', 'faster', 'fastest' buttons... am I not looking in the right place?

Just press the 'p' button to pause/unpause.
