DarkStar One (ye old PC version)
Okay, I got DarkStar One about a year ago, but my computer at the time didn't quite have enough power to run it.
So, I waited until I could build myself a good computer, and now Win7 doesn't like an unsigned driver during installation.

End result is that I've never actually had it running.
I've tried patch 1.3.
I've tried all the compatibility settings.

The most results I get are with stuff like 'disable visual themes' selected, the screen flickers as the visual themes are disable, then it returns to the desktop.

I was directed here from another forum.
Anyone know what I need to do?
Or perhaps just have some more guesses at things that might work?

The low budget version have the patch 1.3 included. Don't install the last patch. If you want start the game have you a error message or only at the installation?

The error was during installation.
Do you want me to re-install and see if it does it again and quote the error here?

When I try to run the game now, it pops-up the 'User Account Control' asking if I actually want to run the program, then I click 'yes'.
The 'User Account Control' closes and nothing else happens.

If I have compatability active, like the '640 x 480' resolution, then the screen flickers as the settings are applied, then flickers again as the settings are removed.

Have you run the game with administrator rights?

Compatibility modus:

- Right-click the darkstar.exe
- Select Properties, then Compatibility
- Select Windows XP, Service Pack 2
- Uncheck "run as administrator"

If I remove administrator rights from it, then try to run it, it says I need to run it with administrator rights when I run it for the first time.
I don't see why I need to run it like I have administrator rights... when I have administrator rights.

TornadoX1, I tried those settings.
The normal pop-up saying 'such and such is trying to run, let it?' and I say 'no, double clicking to start it is how I say go away'.
Then, after I click 'yes, let it run', the pop-up goes away and nothing happens.

Same result I always get. I'll re-install again and see what the error actually says.

Okay, I reinstalled DS1, running the installer as admin and winXP SP2 compatability.
I got this error:

"TAGES driver
error 577"

E577 is unsigned driver... how do I fix that?
I'm considering installing the stuff from TAGES's website and see if that helps... but I don't see how.

But don't foreget to use the right driver (32 or 64 bit).

Also I'll add something else that might help with compatibility issues as well if running in Vista/7, as the Security options may also prevent the game from functioning correctly (dependant on the Hard drives NTFS Security settings, regardless if running in 32 or 64 bit).

Right click on DarkStar one's folder and select Properties.

Select the Security tab.

Left click on Edit tab.

UAC (User Access Control) may display a prompt, so click on OK.

Left click Add tab.

Enter your user accounts name i.e. Alex (Alex being an example account).

Click on OK.

Next left click your user account name that is on the list and left click on Full Control check box.

Now left click on Apply, then left click on OK.

Note:
You may need Administrator permission to perform the above steps.
