Computer AI levels fast
After going through the tutorial, I decided to try one of the hotseat maps against the AI. Now this is my first time playing so I'm still getting used to the game but the computer eventually sent his leader down and killed my leader. At that moment my guys were only level 2 with one knight at 5 and that's only cause I started with him. Keep in mind, I was only turn 15 or so. The AI's squad was all level 8 and higher. Question: How is the computer leveling so fast or do I just suck? lol

They a.i. has never been a problem. U could always use those summoning runes. They can do most of the fighting for U till you are at a high enough level.

I really hope the AI will be a problem in the future and they will improve it instead of letting it cheat.

The issue with the skirmish maps that exist is that you are left with 2 options only.

1- Wait in castle for money so that you can buy new units/leaders and then attack the groups of monsters.

2- Attack directly/immediately but leaving you with low health each time. Forcing you to build a tempel early and then use the money for ressurection of your troops instead.

Meaning it is more profitable to just wait in the castle for a few turns/days! :O

Sure if you manage to find a node rather quickly you would increase your gold income earlier. BUT if you just waited in the castle you wouldnt have lost as much gold from the start by healing your troops. So the gold you get from the new node is the gold you lost for going out of camp earlier to fight...

You still have to wait for that money to come in. One turn for "mage guild" some more turns for gathering of appropriate mana, and so on. Point I was trying to make is that you cant really advance before waiting a few turns IN ORDER to make out the best deal (of the options i previously gave)... (preety much).
So if one player rushes he will without a doubt loose more resources and that will render him fall behind in bulding progress, since he wastes all money on tempel and healing.
Though yes, I like games to be hard, and I dont really dislike the way is made, but I just find it weird that the best option is to sit and wait in castle til you have better runes or units Big Grin
When you have that "giant" (for example), you can preety much RUN over any units close to you castle. But your opposite player who rushed and fought enemies would have higher XP (but most likely still level 1 in that timeframe), but no bulding built and most likely the same resource amount as you EVEN though having a second node. AND dont forget, that you with a giant will most likely reach his level very soon since you have a lot better units.

Also and I do not like to use spells mostly, find them somewhat unbalanced, and renders true battles useless, AND I enjoy a epic battle to much for me to resort to unbalanced spells. Hotseat games that is. I do use runes and spells singeplayer.
For example... Hit the unit with my hero dealing 100 damage OR throw the cheap rune-damaging spell and land 250 damage? I mean thats not really balanced gameplay, and therefore I do not use it multiplayer.

PS: If you have played hotesat a lot you would know what I mean...

Yeah, the AI cheats. And is very aggressive in Skirmish. Especially noticeable on small maps. It's like they bean-line right for your hero. In Krosspell every time I load up the AI charges at my Hero in around 5 turns.

Hopefully the AI gets adjusted. I also think as map sizes get bigger, and are designed with units blocking choke-points to prevent early rushing, will help with this too.

There are all ready choke points, the computer seems to ignore them. Played Battle of Kagar (Kargath? I can't remember how to spell that to save my life ><) against AI again. There's a small path between the two races with a Green Dragon smack in the middle of it. When I go near it, I can not cross without engaging the dragon. Turn 21, guess along which path the AI popped out of?

Disposed of the army, checked to see if they actually killed the dragon. And no, they had not. I fiddled with it and tried to cross past him, but I just could not without engaging it. AI retaliated by bombarding one of my armies with spells (without LoS to boot...) and killed the army solely with spells.

I think 'cheating' is an understatement, seeing as even on turn 7 (!) they tried to invade with an army with a Level 3 Duke and a Dark Paladin. And to boot, defeating that army gave my units 66 xp. Weee...

Yeah, I think hotseat is pretty much unplayable at the moment.

I also noticed that the AI can pass neutral stacks on the world map. I decided the game to be unplayable a week ago but will give them a chance to patch. I fear it will still be unbalanced as hell in hotseat and the small mapsizes are not making me happy either. Together with stupid AI it is a long way to go to fix this mess. A pretty mess of course.
