RE: Partician III old forums
Dear Mandamus,

The Patrician III forums went offline along with the Ascaron website when the company was closed down.

I can however help you with this patch, which was made to solve the problem of the game closing down after accepting a mission at the tavern:

Patch 1.1B

You have to unpack both files in the patch, and copy them to your game folder. You will be asked if it is alright to replace the files - Click "Yes"

Hope this helps,

Michael

I am sorry to say that the Patch is all I can provide you with, as I never had any other cheats or tricks for that game.

Kind regards,

The whole Patrician FAQ which started at the "Patrician World Board" and then got copied and expended at the "Tavern Side Room" is now found at this place. And it's all in English. Big Grin

Which reminds me, I still have to upload and add those pictures of it. Sad

RE: Partician III old forums
Thanks Guys, it was great , i have got lots of info from all sites you posted.

I love Patrician III and I bought it the same year Ascaron put it in the Market, since then I have playing it over and over. some times get bored of it but still, when ever the chance comes back I put it again and spend a great time playing it.
I can not say I am a great player ( I don't go through details like super player , I just go blind and play) but i can tell how much I enjoy it.

I have couple of question if someone would like to answer it will be great:

1- what was the best record to achieve 200k inhabitant and what was the fortune of the guy ( I just don't want to let the game down, i need to compete with something.

2- which is better, to hire an office manager or to put a ship with a captain in the city.

if you have time to answer for an old game though Smile

thanks again for all

regards,

RE: Partician III old forums
The Arbitrage gambit that I and Quis worked out pretty much spoiled things. Before, the game had to be fine tuned economically to achieve a high population. P III wasn't out in English until much later than the German language add-on, so the old real records would be on its board. When we worked out the trick, the money expoit made very high populations easy, since you never ran out of cash, ever. To answer your second question, the Captain, undoubtedly, because he buys and sells twice a day, and can be goosed, the "Rapidfire" I developed, to buy and sell 20 or 30 times a day, as fast as you can click.

We had a Contest game running to develop Luebeck, or any city, to 25,000 as fast as possible. Quis nabbed that with "Green Acres" where he sold to the Landlord massive amounts of grain. I used the export to the Med feature to fund mine; I shipped pitch, and sold alcohol to the Indians (avoiding Arbitrage). We didn't go higher, because, frankly, it all got to be very boring past a certain point. The Germans used Arbitrage to fund uneconomic building, including the "Turkish" (from Mayor of Smyrna) trick to build up cities with no streets at all, to achieve populations up to 3 million. So, your first question must be answered, it depends.

Thankfully, they did pay some attention and did away with the exploits for P IV. Although, not having seen it, I suspect I might find a way to "goose" it. My own record for cash? I accumulated 1.3 million in three weeks of gameplay. The Rapidfire variant, of course, and the Golden Path tossed in. Take my advice, by the way, and don't look them up. Enjoy the game the way it was supposed to have been played.

Maybe I'll put together a Contest for P IV sometime this year. I think the old players can vouch for how much fun they were.

Snicker. Yeah, it was Quis. He had to pay hundreds of thousands in dividends, too.

My favorite was the game with no ship available, just the zero health cog in the auction house. Daytrading until you had enough cash to bid, and plug just enough leaks to sail away without it sinking in the harbor.

RE: Partician III old forums
My best advice is to avoid the tricks. Arbitrage basically ruins the game, and the variant I developed is worse by far. It will take all the fun out of it for you. That number was from a cold start; once you get going, the rough number is 3 million a month for the second month.

Think it over carefully. Eve wasn't happy after her encounter with the Tree of Knowledge; you won't be either. PM me if you still want the trick, and I will tell you. I would much rather give you trading and building advice.

As for the old games, Captain Morgan or Rookie or Jaron might still have a copy.

RE: Partician III old forums
BT , I am not interested in cheats thought i found some of them during my playing time. I could make that much of course if i use tricks that is not including trading , the game basically is trading game so only this part would be the fun.

as example , I found out that you could make loads of money from using a saved network game in single player mode, the auction bug where u can force to demolish your competitors to sell or demolish , the tavern bug when u are Alderman. I would like to know more of course and it will not affect my playing style that much because if its going to destroy the fun of the game then i will not use , but still i like to know.

Well, I don't have the files anymore, however, I found the "Pirate's Cove" still being on-line and also still host the "Blood Sea" contest (as well as my PR contest Cool ).

So for those interested in an old P3 contest: click here.

I also discovered it got lots of the information we had discovered while playing the game, so for those interested in what some "hard core players" have discovered, I reccommend to browse that site.

Hmm

the link works for me.

OK you have to download the *.zip Files one by one from the Posts in the Threads, but it works for more than 90% of the linked *.zip files.

Please discribe your "coundn't open the patrizierforum" a bit more so i may have a chance to help.

There are problems, Hein. Not insurmountable, but the versions are not completely compatible. Examples: Any message from Edinburgh will have no name on it; in patrol missions, you get no bonus for spoiling an ambush; the "Turkish building" does not function exactly the same; captains skill sets are prone to degrade. In reverse, if you loaded an English save, none of the patrol missions or boycott notices have any town mentioned.

RE: Partician III old forums
Well, after some extensive searching, I located the Contest game The Gauntlet, which I think was my best one. Apologies to the gals, but the female version is lost. The game starts in Rostock, where you can effectively make honey and hemp. 8069 in cash on hand, and a few goods in the warehouse, along with a guild membership. No ship.

The game is set at Patrician level, and it is a very tough one to get through, hence the name. Starts in November 10, 1300. Anyone wants the files, let me know by PM here. There are a .pat and a .pst file, not zipped, which can be saved into the EIN saved games file.

Since Kalypso will be releasing a P III with the P IV, perhaps we might revive a contest with the new players sometime. The Gauntlet rules were pretty simple; no arbitrage or exploits not in the spirit of the game. Games were judged on each Alderman election date, with the population of Rostock (working) the main point, with bonuses awarded for other achievements.

Yes, but as much as i understand him he want have a look at taht games to find out what and how the players have managed their systems.

So as long as you don't want to play that games you can use them for informationminig.

And BTW i didn't have that problems, but i had a unpatched version direkt from the developers, that i never patched. That was not the same version that were sold in the US. I think it was a prealfa. But i never had any problems with that version on my old PC. OK the Townnames were german or english depending un the loaded game, but all the rest was translated right and all missions did funktion.
