In no way related to D3 - but thought I'd give you guys a friendly head's up - Age of Wonders II: Shadow Magic has just been made available for digital download. Steam just got it up. $10. I think Gamers Gate and some other sites will be getting it soon.

If you haven't played it before, and you like fantasy turn based strategy games - get this. It's my personal fave, and is definitely ranked as one of the top best strat games of all time. Made to build upon the immortal Master of Magic from oh so long ago.

It was made in 2003 so the grafix aren't anything spectacular, but the depth and gameplay are fantastic. 100s of units, 100s of spells, lots of tactics and strategy.

And pick up the v1.4 unoffical patch. Some excellent changes, with lots of new stuff as well. This site has it, apparently already with 80,000 dowloads.. http://aow2.heavengames.com/

I've played the Age of Wonders 2 and enjoyed it, I'll have to try this one.

If you liked AoW2, you'll really, really like Shadow Magic. They made a lot of changes. The core gameplay is still the same of course. But they hit the nail on the head with balance, depth and a ton more content. The AI also had some excellent boosts too. For 10 bones, you can't go wrong.

By the way - Elemental, by Stardock, was supposed to be the next installment in the series. Apparently Stardock tried to buy the Age of Wonders IP title, but were denied. Which to me, hints we may very well see an AoW III.

I'm still curious to see if Stardock pulls Elemental outta the poop shoot with the next major patch. It's got a ton of potential, but talk about bad launches and an unpolished release..

I never understood that game. Tried it several times and always got my ass kicked.

Yeah, it's got a learning curve to it. I was that way with Dominions (another game) and never gave it a good shot, until much later when a buddy pushed me. I was glad I did - phenomenal game. But brutally hard to figure out for a newcomer.
