Heroes "hate" my dungeon?
Hey all! Just purchased Dungeons a few days ago and having a great time but something is perplexing me. I THINK I've done everything correctly but my goblin still informs me that my dungeon is considered 2nd class / the mere mention of my dungeon leaves heroes with a bad taste in their mouths / barren and uninteresting.

I don't understand it. Heroes regularly flood my dungeon. Once in a while there'll be one who attains max satisfaction. I've got several chests of gold, massive library and equipment room and I've crammed the place with every sort of gimmick and prestige item. Perhaps I've been harvesting them too much? By the end of my last mission I had about:

Prestige: 3.5k
Soul Energy: 20k
Gold: 4k
Captive heroes: ~10

I even let some of them escape the dungeon! Okay, none of them on purpose but still. I can supply a screenshot if needed. Big Grin

I was getting that too.

I built a ton more prestige items and opened up a few random corridors filled with items and it went away.

Another thing I noticed (may have been a coincidence) was that it seemed to start after I placed a slime spawn point down which was killing some heroes. Mistake I made was it was within sensing range of an armoury so as soon as it picked up adventurers in there they'd race off and wipe them out since they're weak against them. I moved it back a few tiles so it couldn't see them in the room and it stopped. After they stopped killing heroes the times I was told the Dungeon wasn't great went down considerably (not fully until I built all the extra items though).

Hmm... I guess they want to be able to loot in peace? I definitely haven't tried including random corridors with items. I tend to concentrate them in one large, segmented room with one segment as library and the other as armory. I also put the pentagrams right in the middle or in the corners haha! I'll try your suggestion!

There isn't really a downside to a lot of prestige right? My goblin once warned me not to attract too much attention and he was getting nervous so I stopped increasing my prestige at that point. I DID increase it by 1.5k after and nothing extraordinary happened.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure if your prestige reaches a "high" level ... on some levels... it lures extremely powerful heros that "eat face"

Now... I'm not sure what would be considered "high" prestige, but it may differ based on level.

I get this a lot... I usually expand territory extremely rapidly... I can't help it, every other game I play usually depends on that kind of strategy.

Here's a question: I wonder if the effectiveness of your dungeon is directly proportionate to your sphere of influence. If you have a ton of barren corridors in your influence, then your items are probably spread out all over creation, thus less effective than a concentrated, smaller dungeon. This makes me want doors all the more!

That makes sense! But it's not like we can spread them out evenly everywhere, especially when it comes to prestige items. Less control. I think I'll try many linked rooms with alternate paths instead of just one segmented one and spread items across the paths. That sounds like it should work.

Has anyone tried making rooms specifically for a gate or two? It's been too much of a hassle for me especially with big maps. It'd require some tight control, extremely well-placed pentagrams, and good speed for your DL. :\

I've done that for a few levels, It seems to work pretty well.

Depends really on the level but I like to dump a 5x5 library and armoury with a few corridors linking between them and one leading to the "main" Dungeon with Treasure piles in both rooms. Depends on the proportion of types through the gate if I put both types of room down or not.

What do you mean by "main" dungeon? And do you really base the room types on the proportion of heroes? I just slap down a huge lib and a huge armory and flood them with items. I assume it'll satisfy whoever. :|

Ok, I got it! The key is... *drumroll* having a high max satisfaction rate. I was getting about >66% and my goblin was telling me people LOVED my dungeon. I included 2 tiny off-shoot rooms from my main segmented one but that was it. No corridors with items or anything.

Where do you see this data point, this max satisfaction rate? Is that somewhere in the interface?

Yes its all about having rooms along the route the heros take to your dungeons center. If they walk a long way with nothing, they get bored and angry. So far I have only seen 2 types of rooms, Libraries and Armouries, place treasure chests in those your heros will be happy. But build many, one of each is not enough. And put your biggest rooms near the best monsters so the loot gets better and better and draws them in Muhaaaa!!!!!

Smile

PS do not forget to click on your dungeon heart and level your men up, i had played 3 levels before i even noticed i could do that. Its in the bottom right corner when the Dungeon heart is selected.

By main Dungeon I mean the central area around the Dungeon Heart. As well as having the starting rooms on the level there I usually have a number of rooms in the areas nearer the hero gates to lure them in.

I dislike having my rooms near the gates. I usually build long connecting routes and fill them with prestige items. Either way, if you've got enough gold in the rooms they'll usually sniff it out without much prodding from prestige items. That way if I'm careless and don't notice one of the max satisfied heroes starts heading toward the gate I'll at least have some time to catch up before he escapes.
