I like your post all together, but I wish to reply specifically to the line I have quoted.

The point is, whether or not the developers are actually taking my joking suggestion seriously -- the net effect is they are producing something that looks more like the Persian Gulf than the Caribbean. You, yourself, see and suggest that is the case. Even if the intent is to abandon the 1950 to 1990 era, I still doubt that the Caribbean and the Persian Gulf look much alike.
