Agreed. I think we saw some of those engine improvements in T3:AP with improved pathfinding, minor graphics and bug fixes and the additions of the floating "sick" and "hungry" indicators.
I'm sure Haemimont is packing a bunch of these upgrades into T4...but they're not exactly glamorous, which is why we won't hear about them...especially at this early stage.
If you look to the Features list above, putting "Feature: - Introducing 4 lane roadways!" isn't exactly a selling point that belongs with the rest of the stuff on that list. Sure, it's a great addition, and sure we as fans will notice it, but it's not exactly something you put on the box or announce as a big new feature.
And in the case that they did, I highly suspect that people would flame saying "4 lane roadways!? WTF!?! That's soo basic and they expect to call this T4 and a whole new game and charge full game price?!"...so they're damned either way. Point is, we all want to see upgrades/improvements to the engine and there is no doubt in my mind we will.
lol! Well, i'm diffently not saying only add 4lane roads...hahahaha. But something you agreed on....the improvement on the engine. That in itself could correct/add the 4lane roads for example.
But the point would be a improved engine...something that really makes it worth getting. Not just a expansion with more buildings, ministers, and importing goods (sounds like a expansion to me).
I like the idea of more buildings, etc. but not really at a full price, as you have to admit, it didn't take them much effort to create the additions as it's STILL tropico3. So they didn't have to "build a game". They only had to ADD some things to it.....

RE: 20 New Buildings
I too think that mall just looks far too modern and unattractive for the area. It looks like it belongs in current-day Singapore or even China but certainly not in my beloved island paradise!
Another building I never really liked in T3 was the sports stadium. It was just so bland and boring! It's doubtful whether a fledgling island nation would have built an indoor stadium, being so much more expensive than building stands around a field. If I think of Central and South America I think of massive open-air stadiums with atmosphere! It's like they just took the easy option so they didn't have to animate people in the stands and on the field playing, but that would have added a very nice touch!
I thought the airport in T3 was well done and it was cool to watch people sun baking at the beach, so they have made an effort to create custom animations for the sims before.
Also, is it just me or do the graphics in the teaser shot above and in the teaser trailer look noticeably better than T3?
A new graphics engine would go a long way to explaining a new version at full retail. I play T3 at 2560 x 1440 with maxed out graphics settings and I don't think I can get it looking as good as that picture or the teaser trailer. The generals in the trailer at the end when the observer was knocked over seem very highly detailed, or is that not intended to be actual in game footage (kind of like the cut scenes in T3, which look hideously blurry when played at the above resolution by the way).

RE: 20 New Buildings
I really don't want modernisation in the game, I like that it feels old! I'd really like smaller building e.g. sports stadium, zoo, garages as they are totally out of proportion. Also I'd like the apartment blocks and tenements to hold more families, its not realistic to the building size. I'd also like an easier way of changing the colour/style of the building.. Unless I'm doing it wrong though but I always have to select what I want, deselect and select again until the right one turns up.. its especially annoying when trying to place down parks/ statues etc. I'd also like an expansion of the types of farms currently available, with extra crop choices e.g. rubber trees, oranges, coconuts and what ever other crops you can think of to widen the post production side so a rubber plant, a citrus fruit factory etc. I really like building my industries in Tropico so I'd like further expansion to this mainly, I begrudgingly add Tourism if there isn't something I can mine/ harvest or fish.. ooh talking of fish, could we make it commercial fishing also not just feeding the populace, we could have fish factories then and upgrade them from canned to frozen etc. I'd also like further options on building types and be able to move building placed for me e.g. move the palace as long as I've constructed another one.

RE: 20 New Buildings
List of buildings in the opening post of this thread has been updated with No. 8: Horticulture Station.
This building has been added based on the new info revealed in the awesome new interview over at Gamer's Guide To Life, courtesy of Hawke. You can find it here: http://www.gamersguidetolife.com/2011/05...cio-4.html .
'GGTL Tropico 4 Interview - May 4, 2011 Wrote:The Horticulture Station is a new building that affects your agriculture. It can be used to plant forests, turn all of your agricultural production organic, or you can dabble in the dark arts of genetically modified corn.
Discuss.
