Patrician IV: Rise of a Dynasty - Bug Reports Thread (Version 2.0.4 only!)
A) i never had aproblem to select a convoy. if there are too many in the town i use the convoy list to select. i guess there is a problem with your hardware/drivers.

B) known issue

C) with the addon there was a bug with the stars of the MM cities. they still shows only one stars, but will raise correctly with your Hanse. And they buy much more than your 100 barrels...

A+C+D) full dxdiag could help. i have got some doubths about the CPU and Graphics...
Do you patched the basic game to 1.3 before installing the Addon?

F) could happen, but if you'll wait one (ingame) day this effect should dissapear

A-F) Unfortunately i expect no further patch for P4 anymore... Sad

In order:

A) I use the Convoy list. I try to click on a Convoy, and it won't let me. The highlight sticks on one Convoy. I have to re-click the highlighted Convoy to get it to un-stick, then I can select the Convoy I want from the list.

B) No more patches. Amazing. If that is true, I won't make the mistake of buying from Gaming Minds or Kalypso again. I am already boycotting Paradox and Ubisoft for their shoddy or lacking support for their products.

C) I got a Mediterranean city up to 5 stars, and it only buys 50-100 barrels from my convoy, even when I send over 5,000 to trade.

D) Yes, I patched to 1.3 before installing the add-on. What doubts do you have about my computer?

F) I'll try that. I just reported it because it seemed like a bug.

Thanks,

Well, I'll try to do my best again (even the answers may not satisfy you):

General: I guess you are using a notebook instead of a desktop PC, aren't you? That could cause troubles (hardware)...

A) Hmm, if I got this right there should be a workaround: Set the time to '0' before you open the list :/ This happens only if you got A LOT of ships in your convoy.
(Sadly, it's a known issue that can't be solved. We're going to use a different system after PIV-RoaD)

B) Just a workaround: you have to do it carefuly Sad
(Sadly, it's a known issue that can't be solved. We're going to use a different system after PIV-RoaD)

C) This one is new to me. I can sell much more then 100 barrels?! Do you have any savegames?

D) I need your DxDiag to tell you more about this... (Mail to 'support@kalypsomedia.com' - Subject: 'Patrician IV-Issue-Daan' - Attachment: DxDiag and savegame)

E) Sadly, it's a known issue that can't be solved. We're going to use a different system after PIV-RoaD.

F) Sould be solved like Dorimil said. Is there a queue running in the background?

We are aware of these issues and we got our lession to avoid things like that in future.
(As Dorimil said, unfortunatly, there won't be another update... Explainations can be found in this board as well.)

Keep up the good work and thank you very much Smile

Believe me, the patch support by Gaming Minds/kalypso is much better than from Ubisoft (playing Anno/Discovery from the beginning!). But every game will run out of support after some time...thats the circle of life...

i have read from many people using this CPU having problems with games, because it "only" has got 1.6GHz and it probably doesn't matter how many cores...
your graphic card is an office version, not designed for playing games. the often has got shared memory. could also be a "trouble-maker"

Thanks, Daan and Dorimil.

I am sad to see the "no-patch policy" is in effect just over a year after the product's initial release. As a big fan of the Patrician series, I was hoping for a more "complete" offering, at least at some point. I did notice that the "Gold Edition" is now available. I feel like a damn fool for buying this game in August. I went against my better instincts, which were to wait for a completed product and thus pay a cheaper price for more game.

You have won this round, Kalypso, but you have fortified my beliefs regarding the current market and gaming industry. Next time you won't be so lucky.

don't get me wrong! i wish every company would patch there products until eternity like Blizzard with Diablo 2, but there is no other company which has got the same financial background. so there will be a point, where the support is stopped by economic thoughts.
i know that this is nothing what we customers wants to hear (or read)...

i would like to help you with your technical problems, but without a dxdiag it is just guessing...

Have you ever thought that it may be other way, meaning that their support (including long time patching) and almoust for ever 'polished' products (= good quality games) give them good financial background. Because customers/gamers can wait good quality games, they also like to buy those games a lot...
You have to have a vision before you can define your strategy.

the financial background of Blizzard is very easy...its called WoW, which gives them a fix income every month.
Of course it gives Blizzard the possibility to publish games "when they are done" Wink And the customers believe in that und will buy more copies of there games.
But i also think, that the production costs of D3 for example are that high, that they won't be covered within the first two weeks after release (which is the main selling frame!). But caused by the standing Blizzard has got, they will sell copies for high prices at a longer distance. Something that will not happen to every other game...

Hmm, that could have several reasons like wrong or missing installations of .NET, DirectX or anything like that.
Did you bought PIV (without RoaD) at gamersgate too? Did you patched it (PIV without RoaD) before you installed RoaD? Do you have been able to play it without RoaD? Please post a DxDiag next time.

Daan

Another thing to keep in mind:

When did you remove the GamersGate download and installation file?
I noticed if you remove that file too soon - when it pops up, but before the installation of P4 RoaD is complete) you run into problems with the installation and the game.

@greymouser
You can reduce the chances of a Wagon Train going to "Ghost" -
I've set my AUTOSAVE TIMER to -1 in OPTIONS.CFG. This disables Autosave. (You can find the Options file your APPDATA folder (Type %appdata% into the RUN command dialogue box) - in the "...... \KALYPSO MEDIA\Patrician Addon" folder. Open with NOTEPAD scroll to near the end of the file
[Autosave]
Timer = nnn
Always back up the file before editing it.

Also you can dispense with escorts and let the "Prince" take a few of the goods - it improves his mood, you lose some goods but gain a slightly happier Prince - you need to keep the Prince happy anyway, so it's sort of a Win / Win.
Fewer battles - fewer saves - less GHOST TRAINS.

is the time the wagon is in a attack reduced if you dispense the escort?

Yes they still get attacked but the "battle" is resolved faster than those with escorts. I run single unit (wagon) wagon trains so the size of the train, hence the escort size, may have an influence. This I will check.

Hi
I have the same problem that has been reported earlier, but not answered, in this tread: as soon as my account balance is negative, my official wealth goes through the roof. The effect of this is that my rank is increased (if I have enough ship and workers) although my true wealth is far from enough to reach a new rank. It is rather annoying to be able to take 1 million in loan when my true wealth only is approximately 300.000 ...

I noticed this error as soon as I started using the mod tools (for the expansion) as reported on http://forum.kalypsomedia.com/showthread.php?tid=9876 . I only changed the town size, town type, starting towns (number) and production in the towns.

Is there a bug in the INI-files? I tried removing the INI-files and start a new game, but the error still applies (I guess I can get rid of the error by uninstalling the game, but I love the idea of starting a game with only 8 small cities... Smile)
Reply
as far as i know modding size, type production of town does not change anything account related
your official wealth is not the same as the account balance
your wealth consist of ships, goods, buildings and money
even if you have a negative account balance ships, goods, buildings could be push official wealth up to the next rank
Reply
My problem is that the wealth registered by the game increases to incredible amounts (billions?) when my account balance is negative! My true wealth does not matter because the game overrules it when my bank account is negative. As soon as the account balance is posivite, the wealth is correct calculated (i.e: when my account balance is negative, I can take a loan of 1 million, but when it is posivite I can "only" take a loan of 50.000-100.000).

I first noticed this after starting modding the ini-files, but the same fault applies after removed the files and starting a new game (I can increase from Grocer to Trader during the first few days, only depending on how fast I can get my account balance negative...)
Reply
i tried a some games where i send the start ship into the sea and let the time run down for some years (-50.000 balance) and my rank changed
so i tried a bit more and here some results:
i started the new games with some mods (that shouldnt have any influence on the rank mechanism)
test1: ship->sea -> 8 years forward in background => rank change (modded)
test2: ship->in harbour (do nothing) -> some years forward in background=> rank change (modded)
test3: sell and buy start ship + ship->sea -> 2 years forward in background +spend money in church => rank change as soon as i get e negative balance (NOT modded)
in all 3 tests the wealth (rank-tooltip & statistic) did not go in the billions
should "negative balance" results in virtual billions for the rank calculation one can get to patrician faster..
but IMHO the price of the guild membership slows one more than the wealth neccesary for the higher ranks
Reply
Concidering that the game is balanced, the ability to take a loan of one million (with a wealth of 50.000) makes the game very unbalanced. For me the fun of the game is the struggle increasing in rank, and this bug takes that fun away...

In my case:
Wealth with positive balance = 47.441
Wealth with negative balance = 1.841.159.999

The only solution to avoiding "pre-leveling" is to abstain from buying ships/hiring workers until my true wealth is high enough to increase in rank (or to avoid a negative balance, which is another challenge...).

No solution to this bug? Sad

strange
where do you read "your" wealth information?
did you usea fullypatched game?
can you upload a savegame?
as far as i see the loan size is increasing with the rank a trader couldnt have a loan offer for one million... i cant remember ever seeing that behaviour

Hi
I get my wealth from the statistics tab and I am playing RoaD 2.0.4.
Unfortunately I don't have access to a homepage, so I am not able to link to a savegame. This forum does not allow to upload files directly to it? (I can mail a savegame)

At the time being I am a travelling merchant needing 246.000 and 1 ship to increase in rank (and am offered a loan of 100.000), but if I let my bank account go negative the next day I only need 1 ship to increase in rank (and am offered 1 million in loan). If I let time pass, without having a negative balance, I still need 246.000 and 1 ship to increase in rank and am only offered 100.000 in loan...

i startet a new unmodded game
waited a month
bought all goods until ~100 gold remained
send my ship to the sea (there i have daily costs)
account balance goes negative
after one day the rank increases
after the end of the month the statistic shows the billion - wealth value

that bug is a new one to my knowledge
another one of these little bugs Sad
and as far as i can tell there will be no further patch

(if you got a postive balance some of the existing (and all the new created ) mission getting cheaper )

I tried removing the savefiles and ini-files, uninstalling the game and then reinstalling:
No problem with the original Patrician IV (with all patches), but as soon as I installed Rise of a Dynasty (version 2.0.1) the rank increases after one day if I have a negative bank account... It seems as this is a game-error Sad I have updated all patches (2.0.4), but the same still applies.

The problem is also reported earlier in this thread (post 63) by Adolaith, also claiming that the problem is RoaD. My brother has the same problem, so I guess this is more or less a systematic error. For me it is definetely not a small bug since it has a huge negative impact on the game Sad

Something Kalypso can have a look at???

Did you started a new game after patching?

Yes. I removed the old savegames (and the modded ini-files) and startet a new game after re-installing. Worked fine on Patrician IV, but when I startet a new game (the old savegames and modded ini-files were still removed) on RoaD the error occured again. I patched up to 2.0.4, startet another new game (still no old savegames or modded ini-files), but the error occurs every time.
Would be very happy if someone were able to fix the error since me and my brother bought RoaD so that we could use the multiplayer feature.

Hi!
Indeed, seems this is a bug. Regarding PIV, the chance to release another patch is very low, but I can say that in our following projects (PR3) this will be fixed. Sorry.

Thank you for your replies Daan and Falko, although I don't like the conclusion Sad

I really hope such errors does not occur in PR3 (PR2 is my favorite game, with PatricianIII on second), since it has ruined PIV for me and my brother Sad (really looking forward to PR3!!! Smile)

Anyone playing RoaD that does NOT encounter this error?
(start a new game, spend all your money and hire an administrator. Let time pass until your bank account is negative, wait one or two days and see if your rank increases)

Probably, anyone could have this. I guess it hasn't been testet that way as this unwanted behavior has been discovered about one year after the release of Road?! (Maybe it is a pretty unusual way to start a game?) Anyway, PR3 will not be affected by this.

My problem exactly. On version 1.3 on top of that(no expansion added). I did not see the existence of that R.o.a.D expansion until I visited the game's website. Plus, registering to this Forum for getting some help and insights about these huge amount of bugs within the core play of it all. I will wait for any constructive replies to my many questions.

Obviously, I should have been invited to beta test this game back in Spring of 2009. So, I would have reported the O.S. transition upgrade from Win. 6(Vista) to Win. 7(6.1)H.P.E.(Fall of 2009) + the two more years.

Guess I was too busy discussing Might and Magic Heroes 6 and, still enjoying MMH5:T.o.t.E(3.1) during all these marvelous years of huge technological advances. Imagine owning an 8 Core processor powered desktop machine. That would be, totally, mind blowing of an experience. Hey, a Triple Core and a Quad Core machine is already blowing my mind. Who knew that a mere 256Mb of an integrated chipset of graphics-video would be so performant; By using one of the 3 cores of my processor die as an APU? Definitely not me.

Anyway, good luck with playing this immensely buggy game. Wink

I understand that there likely won't be any future patches for this game, but I am still going to report this bug anyways. If similar systems are used in other games, it may prevent a similar bug.

I am seeing a bug when I tab through the Town Info screens while on the Hanseatic map. The section that shows the producible goods within the town are not always being updated correctly. Specifically, once I have tabbed to a town that only has 4 producible goods, the display on all other towns is limited to their first 4 goods.

If I close and reopen the window the display is correct for that town.

For example, let's say I have counting houses in Lubeck, Aalborg, Rostock and Stettin. If I open up the town info list from the Hanseatic map for Lubeck, it will display all 5 producible goods. If I then tab to Aalborg, it will show Aalborg's 4 producible goods. From here, tabbing to any of the other 3 locations (Lubeck, Rostock and Stettin) will only show the first 4 producible goods.

I just purchased the Gold Edition from Gamersgate about 2 weeks and the current version would be whatever the launch screen patched last installed. Also, this is on RoaD. I don't know if this is the case on the original as I skipped it for RoaD.
