RE: Patrician IV: Rise of a Dynasty - Bug Reports Thread (Version 2.0.4 only!)
I tried removing the savefiles and ini-files, uninstalling the game and then reinstalling:
No problem with the original Patrician IV (with all patches), but as soon as I installed Rise of a Dynasty (version 2.0.1) the rank increases after one day if I have a negative bank account... It seems as this is a game-error Sad I have updated all patches (2.0.4), but the same still applies.

The problem is also reported earlier in this thread (post 63) by Adolaith, also claiming that the problem is RoaD. My brother has the same problem, so I guess this is more or less a systematic error. For me it is definetely not a small bug since it has a huge negative impact on the game Sad

Something Kalypso can have a look at???

Did you started a new game after patching?

Best regards,

Yes. I removed the old savegames (and the modded ini-files) and startet a new game after re-installing. Worked fine on Patrician IV, but when I startet a new game (the old savegames and modded ini-files were still removed) on RoaD the error occured again. I patched up to 2.0.4, startet another new game (still no old savegames or modded ini-files), but the error occurs every time.
Would be very happy if someone were able to fix the error since me and my brother bought RoaD so that we could use the multiplayer feature.

Hi!
Indeed, seems this is a bug. Regarding PIV, the chance to release another patch is very low, but I can say that in our following projects (PR3) this will be fixed. Sorry.

Best regards,
Daan

Thank you for your replies Daan and Falko, although I don't like the conclusion Sad

I really hope such errors does not occur in PR3 (PR2 is my favorite game, with PatricianIII on second), since it has ruined PIV for me and my brother Sad (really looking forward to PR3!!! Smile)

Anyone playing RoaD that does NOT encounter this error?
(start a new game, spend all your money and hire an administrator. Let time pass until your bank account is negative, wait one or two days and see if your rank increases)

Probably, anyone could have this. I guess it hasn't been testet that way as this unwanted behavior has been discovered about one year after the release of Road?! (Maybe it is a pretty unusual way to start a game?) Anyway, PR3 will not be affected by this.

My problem exactly. On version 1.3 on top of that(no expansion added). I did not see the existence of that R.o.a.D expansion until I visited the game's website. Plus, registering to this Forum for getting some help and insights about these huge amount of bugs within the core play of it all. I will wait for any constructive replies to my many questions.

Obviously, I should have been invited to beta test this game back in Spring of 2009. So, I would have reported the O.S. transition upgrade from Win. 6(Vista) to Win. 7(6.1)H.P.E.(Fall of 2009) + the two more years.

Guess I was too busy discussing Might and Magic Heroes 6 and, still enjoying MMH5:T.o.t.E(3.1) during all these marvelous years of huge technological advances. Imagine owning an 8 Core processor powered desktop machine. That would be, totally, mind blowing of an experience. Hey, a Triple Core and a Quad Core machine is already blowing my mind. Who knew that a mere 256Mb of an integrated chipset of graphics-video would be so performant; By using one of the 3 cores of my processor die as an APU? Definitely not me.

Anyway, good luck with playing this immensely buggy game. Wink

RE: Patrician IV: Rise of a Dynasty - Bug Reports Thread (Version 2.0.4 only!)
I understand that there likely won't be any future patches for this game, but I am still going to report this bug anyways. If similar systems are used in other games, it may prevent a similar bug.

I am seeing a bug when I tab through the Town Info screens while on the Hanseatic map. The section that shows the producible goods within the town are not always being updated correctly. Specifically, once I have tabbed to a town that only has 4 producible goods, the display on all other towns is limited to their first 4 goods.

If I close and reopen the window the display is correct for that town.

For example, let's say I have counting houses in Lubeck, Aalborg, Rostock and Stettin. If I open up the town info list from the Hanseatic map for Lubeck, it will display all 5 producible goods. If I then tab to Aalborg, it will show Aalborg's 4 producible goods. From here, tabbing to any of the other 3 locations (Lubeck, Rostock and Stettin) will only show the first 4 producible goods.

I just purchased the Gold Edition from Gamersgate about 2 weeks and the current version would be whatever the launch screen patched last installed. Also, this is on RoaD. I don't know if this is the case on the original as I skipped it for RoaD.

Hi, I got a bug while playing PAT IV: Rise of Dynasty. I bought 6 cannons to my Shyka ship, but they never showed in the invetory of my ship. Only the cargo space is deducted accordingly, however the cannons still show 0/0. I have the latest version 2.04.

To be able to defend your convoys you'll have to mark 1-3 ships as battleships. Only the marked ships show their cannons ( e.g. 6/6) and are able to use them in a seafight. If there are no ships marked as battleships, the convoy will be plundered (in an autofight) any time your ships are attacked.

RE: Patrician IV: Rise of a Dynasty - Bug Reports Thread (Version 2.0.4 only!)
Hi guys, I have a terrible problem. I just installed the expansion and I was in game. Everything was perfect. Suddenly my laptop run out of battery so it went in stand by mode. After I resumed windows and tried to resume the game i realised that i cannot play the game anymore in fullscreen. It's very annoying. Everytime I start the game it doesn't start anymore in fullscreen, but only in a window. I uninstalled and reinstalled but it's the same. I tried to have a look at the settings but it doesn't work anymore. Please can anyone offer a solution to this annoying problem? Thank you so much.

P.S.: i have the latest update: 2.0.4
P.S.: i tried to change the settings of the shortcut at run in "normal window" and "maximized" but still doesn't help.

RE: Patrician IV: Rise of a Dynasty - Bug Reports Thread (Version 2.0.4 only!)
I've noticed a number of small bugs:

1. When hiring pirates from taverns to blockade cities, an icon (a skull) appears, indicating that pirates are blockading this port. Pirates disappear after a while (defeated by convoys, I suppose) - the icon, however, stays forever.

2. When blockading a port with an owned convoy (with a pirate flag raised), after some time a defender convoy appears in some other city nearby that is trying to lift the blockade. This convoy gets Hulks even if they aren't yet researched.

3. When entering a manual battle with aforementioned defender convoy, an enemy has only one ship, although the window before the battle says there are 3 ships.

4. After researching Hulks, pirates (both named ones, like Lafitte, Kornbrock, etc. and generic ones that go as "Unknown pirate") start having Hulks in their convoys - even if there are no Large Shipyards in the world (where are they getting them?!).

5. Cannot add wagons to wagon trains when the trade route is activated (although adding ships to convoys while trade route is activated works just fine).

Probably something else I cannot remember right now.

P.S.: I would very much like to know if any further patches are planned for Patrician 4. If not - then I won't buy Port Royale 3, knowing that bugs in will be half-way fixed.

Point 2 and 5) works as designed, that aren't bugs!
4) the pirates getting stronger as the player will. isn't a bug, but seems not to be logic.

3) there is a difference between total ships in convoi and battle ships within a convoi! Wink

RE: Patrician IV: Rise of a Dynasty - Bug Reports Thread (Version 2.0.4 only!)
Hi everyone! Here is my prolem:

The game crashes me nearly always after pressing a few times the buttons "Save Settings" and "Use Settings" in the Administrator panel (in the Counting House). After the crash a Windows error message says me that the game has been shut down by the DEP (Windows Data Execution Protection)...

I've already tried to put the .exe of the game in the exception list, but it just gives me a message saying "This program must run with data execution protection (DEP) enabled. You cannot turn off DEP for this program." It doesn't allow me to make it an exception.

I have the Steam version of the game and my OS is Vista 64bit.

Could you help me please? Probably you already found this issue, I checked the web for every possible solution but unsuccessfully.. Sad Then i decide to write here.

Yes - this appears to a bug - but it is circumventable. It shouldn't be a problem.

It happens if you click SAVE SETTINGS or USE SETTINGS several times within 5 to 6 seconds - then on the 5th or 6th mouse click the game crashes to desktop, with the error you quote but looking in the crash log it gives error "C0000005" which is WINDOWS saying "something happened but I don't know what".

I SAVE SETTINGS in Lubeck and then copied them to 18 other towns, twice round, as fast as I could - so 36 SAVE SETTINGS in different counting houses and no crash.

The times I use this function are:-
just after a new counting house is built - copy in a my home town settings and then modify them;
or if an event or change of plan and I need to modify all settings globally - then I change them in my home town and copy then round all towns modifying for local needs.

For these two circumstances I don't see this causing a problem.

Do you have another circumstance when it is a problem?

I don't know because of this problem I stopped playing.. But I seem to recall that my crashes occur only whit this 2 buttons.

Btw.. what's the different between "SAVE SETTINGS" and "USE SETTINGS", because I used them more for ignorance then real need. Smile

Once you have set up the buying and selling price, and quantity of goods to buy or the amount to keep, for all goods in your home town's counting house - then these prices can be used in all of your counting houses. Just the quantity of goods, to either keep, or the maximum amount to buy, needs changing in each of your new towns.

So when you build a new counting house and hire an Administrator, go to your home town or any other town where you own a counting house and
SAVE SETTINGS - then go to your new counting house and
USE SETTINGS - the prices and quantity levels are copied to your new counting house.

Then you can adjust the price or quantity levels for the goods in your new towns counting house. It saves a lot of time using the up down arrows or typing in the price for all the goods every new counting house you build.

I doubt if there will another patch for this game, the developers Gaming Minds, seem to have a small team - have a look at the CREDITS. I suspect that they are working on an expansion for their latest game - Port Royal 3.

But who knows? Smile

RE: Patrician IV: Rise of a Dynasty - Bug Reports Thread (Version 2.0.4 only!)
An answer will be appreciated. When i log on and start playing the game my timer takes 1,ooo off every thirty seconds taking me from 249,000 to 212,000 very quickly even when I am selling my goods.

My money timer is going much faster than my ship speed. I thought the game was to deduct fees and wages paid in the game once a week not daily as it did in the previous version of the game.

I get tired of starting this game over and over again because of problems.

Normally, the timer behaves this way for the first 10 minutes of play and then it slows down once trading and sales begin. This time it did not. Now there is no way to keep up with the sale of goods when the timer is running at such a fast speed. Now if this is a normal part of the game until the AI takes much of your money away that is ok. I just need to know hat this is part of the game, so I know it is not a problem in the game.

Thankyou!

@lmclshop

You are talking about Patrician 4 Rise of a Dynasty? I don't recognise those numbers - A Free Play Game you start with 30000 Gold and there is no deductions until you start trading and hiring people.
Let the game play for a while, at least 10 days - then -
Do a screenshot of the Balance TAB from the logbook, that will show all money movements - post it.

After running my game for a while, say an hour or so, some event videos will pop up without sound and play constantly until I hit Escape. As well as that, certain overlay images no longer appear (blue flags over my buildings, the not enough building materials sign, etc)

Quitting the program and restarting it solves the issue, not exactly a game breaker. It is amusing to see Uncle Lubeck mouth wordlessly to me forever though.

@DDRJake - this is typical of a "memory leak" error. Basically memory isn't being release once a module terminates or finishes. The issue is more of a problem if your system uses shared memory - You can see that in your DXdiag. It could be anything - so

Update Windows; Update all your device drivers - video / sound / and keyboard, mouse (human interface devices are a common cause of this issue);

If it still happens post your DXdiag here; all this is detailed here ->
