The sound problem was in happening in all the saves - it started after the videos locked up for Uncle. The sound works for the rest of the game.

First thing to check is that your Graphics and Audio drivers are up to date. Check on the Manufacturers web sites.

You can post your "dxdiag" file if you want - make sure it's inserted code
