Hello
This is my first visit to the off-topic forum. I have been around for a while but I have never introduced myself to other people. So I will tell you something about me. As you probably noticed,I often make grammar mistakes.

- I am 23 years old and I live in Croatia

- I often answer questions about Tropico but I don't claim I am the best player ever.

- I ignore my final score in Tropico

- My nick is Che Guevara but I am not a fanatical supporter of him. I believe he did some great things but he was not perfect. Sometimes good can't exist without bad-he killed people but you must look the big picture, not label him as a hero or villain.

- I often take part in protests against our current ( Croatian ) government. I don't know if your newspapers write about them.

That is all you need about me. I never write about my personal life. If you have a question about Tropico 3,feel free to ask it.

- Che

Question RE: Hello
Did you ever look at Cafe Tropico -- specifically Rebel_Yell's analysis of T3's "Challenge Editor" ??

If so, perhaps you copied it off for your own use?

RE: Hello
Hello.

- I am 22 years old and live in the United States

-I also answer lots of questions in the Tropico Forum

-I also never cared too much about my final score

-I occasionally blurt out random ideas for improving Tropico

-My sn is Ironfist, I chose this name because I had to scrap the sn I'd been using for years because it was inappropriate, and I thought it generally fit in to the Tropico theme. I do not use "Ironfist" in any other game.

-I don't remember the last time I read a newspaper. I occasionally go online for news articles, and they are almost always business, government, or industry related. Gotta know what curveball the EPA is throwing us next to damn our livelihoods! I've never taken part in any protests against the United States government and am often rather skeptical of those who do. In my opinion most forms of activism is an admission of one's meaninglessness.

-I really don't care much for Che, frankly I do not like any historical character that has been ruthlessly overidealized into some god made flesh (Reagan, Clinton, JFK, Lincoln, the works). In my opinion it is more of an act of blindness and self-deception than anything.

-I generally don't post anything about my personal life, spare my gender and age. Occasionally I ask people for anonymous advice, but not in this forum.

-As a pseudo-disclaimer, I often get in trouble for my tendency towards cynicism, pessimism, and brutal honesty. Never been one to sugar coat things.

RE: Hello
Trust me, in Croatia we have more reasons to protest. Our country is ruled by corrupted and uneducated people.

I regret the uneducated part. Perhaps that separates the major powers from the so-call "third-world" -- the educated corrupt vs the uneducated corrupt.

The search for the uncorrupted has been both unending and unsuccessful.

Sad

Most of them don't have college diploma and few finished only elementary school.

Major of Zagreb ( our capital ) can't speak any foreign language.

HE DOESN'T KNOW THE WORDS OF OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM.

Hey, countless numbers of our leaders don't speak foreign languages.Tongue

Although not knowing your own national anthem is kinda.. weak.

Oh yes, and the "uncorrupted"-at least relatively speaking-do step forward every so often, but are usually easily crushed by those willing to go that extra mile, if you get what I'm saying. Wink

To be "uncorrupted" is more of a liability than an asset in politics.

Big Grin RE: Hello
Many U.S. political leaders struggle with their native English -- that is, even the American version of it; they get in trouble when they aren't reading something written for them. To whom should they speak another language, anyway?

Hardly anyone can get past the first stanza of "The Star Spangled Banner" (there are four); one has to be a trained singer to stay even nearly on tune whilst singing it.

Does the Mayor of Zagreb look like a mayor? Is he tall and handsome -- good hair, cut in a popular style -- and not grossly obese? Does he have a good speaking voice (for reading the speeches written for him), not high and squeeky but rather baritone or bass? He should have a face which can and does show a range of expression -- including a smile that shows a beautiful set of teeth.

Those are the real tests of political ability. Academic credentials and certificates can be handed to them at any time -- as the Wizard of Oz told the Scarecrow, "You don't need a brain, what you need is a certificate of graduation."

RE: Hello
Please, our anthem Lijepa naša domovino ( Our Beautiful Homeland- literally ) is much, much shorter and simpler than Star Spangled Banner ( I heard it )

About our mayor- he has trouble speaking Croatian as well. Let me
see you try justify that.

It isn't a shame he doesn't know a single foreign language. It is a shame he lied to whole nation ( said he can speak
French and English )

RE: Hello
Trust me we need to overthrow these people either by voting them out of office or real revolution. We used to be happy people and now most of Croatians is angry at our government. Man that protest was pretty violent...

Please, I was not trying to justify him.

I was truely only trying to point out that he is not uniquely a complete dud. In America, we have similiar and worse examples by the score. Not only are our streets not paved with gold, but also we do not have a magic formula for eliminating corrupt politicians.

There was a very popular Mayor of Washington, DC (our capital), who was in and out of jail so much that he could have invented a new revolving door. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marion_Barry

Screening out corrupt politicians is heavy, sweat-shop labor done by the media, the private investigative institutions, and the public by engaging in honest work in political parties. If you can't get rid of them in elections, look to your criminal laws and your courts.
