hello, I am French and I currently play with patrician IV, I encounter a problem after 1 hour 39 of plays where I have an error message: “Did Patrician IV cease functioning”, the plays carried out a front autosaving but even while charging several times the safeguard does the bug return, have a solution? Is there something particular you are doing in the moment of the crash? e.g. changing the view from map to town view or enter a building?

First ensure that you are running the latest version of WINDOWS patches, there was a C++ 2005 and 2008 redistributable version patch last evening (C++ redistributable is used by the game).
Run windows update - if your machine is not set to "Automatic"

Then :-
Does it Crash to Desktop - no pop-up with error message? Post it "en Francais"
Is there an entry in the Application or System log in Event viewer?
Is there a DR WATSON log file - is named Drwtsn32.log and is saved in the following location:
drive:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINNT\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson
this is the default program error debugger.

Alternatively, just type %appdata% into the search box of the start/run menu and navigate to the Kalypso Media\Patrician 4 folder from there. No need to fiddle around with folder options and usernames whatsoever.

Crash always happens when I enter in the view of the city.

the error codes point to a problem with around MS Visual Studio - which is consistent with you entering a city. There will be a "call" to the graphics at that point.

There was a driver for your Video Card released on 27th April - could be worth installing that one.
Then if you still have a problem

Run WINDOWS UPDATE and run any high priority updates, then check the "Optional" updates to see if there are any "graphics" or Visual studio updates for your machine.

After that you could try a complete reinstalltion of the game and the addon - it's worth a shot.

Nothing to do. I can't uninstall the game. I have the Special Steam edition. Sad

You can try to verify the installation files in STEAM
OPEN the Steam Application
IN the LIBARY - main menu option - where your games are listed
RIGHT CLICK the game - Select Properties - then the "Local Files" TAB
Then select the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" Option.

If you have a "SAVEGAME" that crashes then if you can upload it to a "file share" site (there are free ones) and post the link.

I'm running a lower spec PC than yours and running your SAVE - entering all cities everything displays fine - two things I would check.

1. Did the DirectX 9 install with the game files -there is a folder .....\Kalypso Media\Patrician 4\DirectX

2. Do you have 3D set on in your graphics card settings. There was a problem and Daan Hugo posted that 3D needs to be off, for Patrician. - I have an Nvidia card and that has an option to let the application decide.

I have DirectX 11 installed and 3D set it's ok. I don't know to do, now.

ATI did use a desktop control panel called "HYDRAVISION" which was similar to NVIDIA Control Panel. With Hydravision you can configure display and video settings on a per application basis. There are settings relating to 3D.
There is a "users guide" on the ATI web site - I tried to look on the Italian site but my Italian is about as good as my German. I suggest that you try to disable any 3D settings for Patrician.

3D setting is on "Let application decide" but unfortunately crashes are always frequently

The problem looks to be in the graphics calls - your screen shot of the city screen before the crash shows an incomplete picture - the background sea and land are not properly displayed.
One last thing try setting your in game graphics (using Options) to minimum and without any detail , shadows etc ....
If it works then add detail and increase graphics until you get the problem.

Also I would try "AMD" support - tell them that the same game worked on a NVIDIA GS 7900 card.

I finally solved!
Playing in a window mode... I have not had a crash to desktop problems.
I hope this can help others. Smile
