I have just purchased the game and do not seem to get passed the very beginning. Its the stage where it asks you to move about the screen with your mouse and zoom in and out using button. I am using a standard dell mouse and have moved everywhere and zoomed in etc so far times i have lost count but nothing seems to happen. i have struggled to play the game without the tutorial and am at the point of giving up.

Any help would be gratefully received!!!

Try zooming out with the mouse scroll as far as possible. If that does not work, try pressing Space to go into realm overview with the keyboard.

hi, I had the same problem.. but I found out that pressing the ALT key together with moving the mouse you can move on to the next tip tutorial..... hope this helps..

Tried the third mouse button? Push the scroll wheel and move the mouse up and down.
Acts like a second zoom, and when moving mouse left to right, it allows you to rotate.

Also, if it is because you can not get to the "overhead" view, hit Space Bar and this is the zoom-all-the-way-out key.

Ditto to all the above. This must be some crummy game that the zoom question in the tutorial has been f***** up since April of 2009 and no one has solved this problem. Please show us laptop users how to deal with it.

I just bought Grand Ages Rome from Gamersgate and patched to 1.11 and am trying to do the tutorial. The first message tells me to use the mouse to scroll and the middle mouse button to rotate. I'm playing on a laptop with no middle mouse button. How do I rotate? And how do I get the tutorial to continue? Nothing is happening. Is there a manual for this game

I had the same problem and the only solution I was able to find was to grab a little USB three-button wheel mouse to get over the zoom-in, zoom-out step of the tutorial. It's unfortunate because I don't see anywhere that it says that a three-button wheel mouse is required to play the game. I got past the rotate step by holding down the alt key while moving the mouse. I just couldn't find a substitute for that wheel.
