RE: Tropico 4 at E3
Props to seasnake and Samuel Robinson for the coverage...nice to finally see somebody getting something out of E3!

Also, Gamespot has a bunch of new screens up that show:
- Fire Station
- Space Needle
- Ministry
- Salt Mine
- Roller Coaster
- Tsunami
- Volcano/ash cloud?
- Fire damage on building
- New interface
...plus a few other goodies I probably failed to notice.

Check 'em out: http://e3.gamespot.com/image_viewer/6318...%3Bthumb;1

RE: Tropico 4 at E3
the main thing i notice in most of the new pics is that the area of paving around the buildings has shrunk, if not gone completley. In some of the cityscape pics there is alot of grass around the buildngs, does this mean the paving will be optional?

RE: Tropico 4 at E3
Nice pics, and is it me or has the colour and brightness been cranked up a bit.

One disappointing thing for me is that it seems the buildings that have stayed (some at least) look absolutely identical to T3. Would it really have been much work to change the style of houses, apartments etc to keep things fresh?

Looks like the Council of Ministers positions have been revealed. In Part 2 of the GameTrailers walkthrough you can see all 5 positions:

1. Economy
2. Education
3. Foreign
4. Interior
5. Defence

Looks good to me!

It looks like Tropico 3, all the old buildings are the same, the roads also, and the island is king of the same too just bigger .I hope that this is because it is a Cam video.

From what I've seen today I tend to agree, looks like an expansion. The clip of the firemen putting out a fire is a nice addition and the ash cloud is very topical.

I must admit I'm a little disappointed that the gameplay doesn't really seem to have changed at all like it did from T2 - T3 but I'm still looking forward to playing it.

RE: Tropico 4 at E3
Hmm, a few things I'd have liked to see addressed in the videos:

What are the new traits for El Presidente?
Are there any changes to power and power grids? I ask because in the video it looked like he had a section of windmills far out in the countryside to power his city, so can you take energy from a wind farm and transfer it across your island?
What does it mean when you need blueprints for buildings?

Oh well, still a lot of good information. Thanks Timo!

Well you can already transfer power across the island at the moment using substations. However with the new larger island sizes it would be good if there was a more efficient way of doing this, such as power lines.

You have to understand Tropico 2 and Tropico 3 were a lot further apart than Tropico 3 and Tropico 4

RE: Tropico 4 at E3
watched a few vids.. timo, despite not speaking english often you did a fine job of explaining (*edit, and just for the record i mean it in a good way.. never would of guessed you dont speak english often, other than just having an accent)

Love the new ministry, and privitizations, and i think those interactive disasters might be fun this time instead of just, an annoyance.

the larger islands are awsome. I cant believe how much this is gonna help in making cool islands. In T3, as you get better at the game it becomes less about style, and more about, squeezing buildings in every possible spot. T4, looks like you can truely focus on style without having to give up anything.

Nuclear power plant is a nice touch

really looking forward to the improved story mode.

A couple q's though..

Farms i didnt notice any type of garage feature still. this i think is a hinderance to really getting a nice rural style farming island going with out having to build ugly garages all over. I really hope an upgrade to them will come in the form of a small barn type building, big enough for a car to pull in and out.. (perhaps drive through style)

paving and grasses.. is there a new tile so we can drop pavement/sidewalk areas, or add grassy areas to dirt patches?

traits.. You said you will have more options to choose from on el presidente', But under traits, I noticed there were only 3, Vrs the 4 before, 2 positive, 2 negitive. (or did i not see correctly?) If so was there a reason behind this?

highering workers, when you where highering diplomates at the ministry, you got selections of tropicans with info about them to make a choice who to higher. Are there any other jobs that have this lvl of micro management?

Over all, id say even though it seams to have much of the same look, it does seam like lots of the changes are more fundemental game play vrs just look flashy new graphics. Im really hoping the play reflects that.

Sooo how about that beta.. im sure you need to check some system configs.. Big Grin

RE: Tropico 4 at E3
hm, its strange how some buildings have the paving still there and others have none at all, looks rather strange in the 'urban' areas, and that shopping mall or office or whatever the big white building is really doesn't fit in :/

plus, I don't like how empty the tourist attractions look... I do hope tourists want to use them more, and tropicans too Shy

on the plus side, the new buildings and natural disasters look very realistic.

could you place more than one TV station before? There are 3 of them in one picture.

the whole thing looks really good. the size of the islands will really make it more interesting. i always tried to make some small towns on tropico 3 away from the palace but they just merged into no large urban island. Also, the colour and brightness really has gone up, but that may be due to the quality of the clips maybe. my only query is the terrain. i dont know what it is but it doesn't seem to look as good as tropico 3, i mean the grass and dirt patches. especially in the urban areas wher some buildings no longer have the paving around them, as mentioned above :-(

sweet, thanks for the info..

BTW.. along with a grass and pavement paintbrush,, (even if its just small sqaure patches we can paint down, though a circle and a triangle would be really nice too. i hope there is also one for sand.

another question too, i havent seen anything about how the AI's been upgraded. do you have any info you can tell us about desires, or entertainment, or tourism? any upgrades to any of these systems?

all this E3 stuff has done is leave me with more questions !! Big Grin

+1 for a grass and concrete paintbrush...

I want all my Tropicans to sing: "We been spending most our lives living in a concrete paradise"

"Prétendre que l'homme ne peut pas et surtout ne doit pas corriger une situation dont personne n'est originellement le responsable, est à cet égard un pur paralogisme. Il est en effet irresponsable de ne pas agir sur des effets, même si personne n'est responsable de leur cause." - Alain de Benoist

This tropican is very happy that el prezidente has chosen to move to a larger island group and glad that he is sharing so many new technologies with us.

I see in the E3 cam videos that the grade school is still the same size as the high school. I hope they have capacity for much more children or a resize is needed.

Its not realistic considering the labs and stuff in a high school and the desks and play area of a grade school. It should be about the size of the immigration office , maybe the children can "work/play" outside like the miners do.

Here's an easy question!

I noticed many of the screenies have no menus / onscreen clutter, so will it now be possible in T4 to completely switch the UI on and off ...?

Cheers!

Excellent videos / great presentation Timo.

Really enjoyed seeing the firemen in action and the helicopters at the oil spill.

Really like the addition of Ministers

The new menus look a lot cleaner and easier to use?

Are there now controls on what to export and how much?

Will there be any changes to the markets - like showing how much food is stocked?

Any planned changes for the garbage dumps, such as garbage trucks, increased radius, etc?

- Looking forward to playing T4 - Smile
