Curiosity: Alderman announcement
I just had an announcement pop up stating that the Alderman "wants (my home city) to be better supplied for the next while to ensure an increase in the city's prosperity."

Does this announcement have _any_ impact on the game? Or was it just tossed in for "color"?

Aside from the fact that "for the next while" is totally vague, I gather "better supplied" = several commodities with 2 green dots of Supply level in the Market Hall. The question then is, "How many commodities = 'better supplied'?"

Anyone _know_ how this specific non-mission works? Is there a reward for success? A penalty for failure? Curious minds want to know!

you haven't been elderman so far?! Wink

If a town is poor or is going to be, there will be sometimes the possibility to generate a mission. the elderman can choose between a real mission, which can be accepted in the guild, or an announcement. In your case it seems to be only the announcement. So there is no real mission that could be failed, but it indicates that you do not support your home town as you should do (Bad Boy! Big Grin )

RE: Curiosity: Alderman announcement
For this game, I'm just coming up on my first anniversary (1 April 1371). I've only recently made it to Patrician, but I haven't yet fulfilled 3 Guild missions. (Only built one village up to Trading Outpost.) And I'm currently caught in a bug where I've been assigned to destroy a pirate that I have _already_ destroyed before accepting the mission. I'm waiting for the deadline to see if I get the reward or get a "failed".)

There is a small possibility, that the names of two pirates are similar.
Maybe you destroyed a namesake and you didn't spied the new pirate yet Wink

The Notice posting was, "The pirate sent by Gothenburg was destroyed." That was posted before I accepted the mission and immediately after I defeated the pirate. I believe it's safe to say that they were one and the same.

For the record, when the deadline arrived, I got a "Mission failed" announcement. So if the situation comes up -- a mission posted for something that you've already done -- don't bother to accept it.

Ok, there a several possibilities and we just need to find out what's wrong:

a)
Pirate X has only 1 convoy left and you just accepted the mission after you destroyed it. (Maybe your game speed settings are so slow [x0 or x.1], that the mission can't be abandoned.

b)
You destroyed one pirate (e.g. near visby), then accepted the mission (with details to an different convoy of the same pirate [e.g. near visby]). Now there is now pirate at this place, but you'll find it somewhere else (e.g. near riga).

....or maybe something else, it's difficult to say.... can you provide a savegame? (+version no. +steps to reproduce)

regards,
daan

RE: Curiosity: Alderman announcement
The problem was that the mission to destroy the pirate was a League mission, available from the Guild Hall. However, I was already currently engaged on a League mission to develop a village. While engaged on a League mission the ONLY mission details that I can see are the current mission. I get a "Mission available" icon floating over the Guild Hall to indicate that there are additional missions available (such as, "Destroy the pirate sent by Gothenburg") but I can't see what they are. That is, not until after I complete or fail the current mission.

So I'm working on building up a village. Gothenburg sends out a pirate. The League offers a mission to destroy that pirate (which I can't see). I encounter and destroy that pirate. THEN I complete the current mission and the full list of what is available at the Guild Hall appears (including "Destroy the pirate from Gothenburg"). I choose that mission and then I'm locked in until I either Cancel the mission (which I _should_ have done) or the mission deadline arrives and the mission is declared a failure.

The root problem is that once the target of the mission -- the pirate from Gothenburg -- was destroyed, the League mission should have been removed from the list.

A similar situation is if a town offers a mission to "Increase production" by building two additional businesses of a given type. If you already started to build two businesses of that type, when they are completed, they _should_ count as having fulfilled the mission. However, as far as I can tell, you can ONLY successfully complete that mission if you start building two additional businesses of that type after having accepted the mission. (In effect adding four such businesses of that type to the town.)

Hi!

I think I've finaly figured out what the problem is...

You're the alderman and you're the one who triggers the missions.
I think, you're the one who did the mistake.
You can only fulfil one mission at once.
You said: 'The League offers a mission[...]' - That is not correct. You are the one who's in charge to offer the mission, because you are the alderman. Once you've offered it, you'll be able to accept it. So you dropped that kill-a-pirate mission, fulfilled your active mission, destroyed the target pirate and then you accepted the kill-a-pirate mission eventhough the pirate isn't exsiting anymore. If you're playing on low gamespeed, you should have known that the mission can't be deleted that fast. It's pointless to accept a mission that already has been done(I'm not pretty sure, but there might be a way this happens even you're not the alderman...). Try to have a closer look at it.

Is that the problem you've mentioned? If not, please send me a savegame Smile

That' correct.
1.) Accept mission to build something 2.) Start building something 3.) Success - makes more sense than: 1.) Start building something 2.) Accept mission to build something 3.) wonder why the mission fails Tongue

Best regards,

Daan

btw: there is no disadvantage by failing a mission

Actually, I have never played a single game long enough to become the Alderman. In this case, I had just completed my first League mission (develop a village into a Trading Post); just to be eligible to run for Alderman you must have completed three League assignments. [I had been hoping that the pirate would have qualified as a quick second mission, but instead I ended up wasting several game-weeks.]

Ok, now I can be sure what issue we're dealing with. Thx for the report Smile
