cant keep generals
Greetings. I cant for the life of me figure out any way to keep a military. My generals always leave, even though they have the highest pay on the island. I have to bring them in from off island, and they stay employed at the barracks for just a short time before screwing off to somewhere else. i have a garage right by the base, as well as an armoury (they will only stay there for a little while too before leaving.) I have tried restarting many times, but not matter what i do they just seem to leave. Its actually at the point where i cant play the game, as i keep getting attacked by rebels, and i have no military to keep them away. Any help would be appreciated.

What is their job quality ? Wage is not all that matters.

You need a college to keep generals employed. Very rebel fight, the generals fight, and some will die. The best thing to do is using a college in order to have replacements.

That's true, you will need to be able to replace them with your own if they're killed, and having a college is beneficial in many ways anyway. I've actually never had problems keeping a military, my last game I had over 30 soldiers/generals. A few things I'd ask, you say you had a military base? How close was it to your main city with entertainment and food? Also, what style of leadership is your presidente? Do you have military qualities? And how many ordinary soldiers do you have? I'd imagine (though since I'm still sorta new) that having a lot of generals and few soldiers wouldn't work out too well...

Strange, I have the opposite problem; it feels like people are lining up for general jobs on my islands as the positions fill up as soon as the armory/base is built and any time there is a vacancy (through death or otherwise), bam, new general.

I don't necessarily have a set up favorable to military (for example I don't normally play as a Generalissimo or set my schools to military education), but I make sure I have a College before my Armory is built. ASAP after that I build my Army Base. Once the Army Base is up, I pass a Military Modernization edict to make it pretty much the best quality housing and health care on the island. Even with Special Ops training, they don't leave.

I do compensate though; Generals' starting pay I set at 25. But really for my games, they don't care much until after the Modernization edict is passed. After that you won't be able to keep them away.

General are a fickle bunch. You obviously need the barracks, college, and some nice places to live for the most part. With that said, you need other college jobs to even the flow between Generals, and other employments that require a college education. It’s a give & take type of thing. If all you have is college jobs only for Generals, and nothing else, then that’s what you’ll get.
