Prefectures not only put out fires but it also reduces resource upkeep in buildings in the prefecture's area. Building prefectures near buildings will help save a lot resources. Especially around insulaes and equite houses, who use up a lot of wood, brick and stone if many homes are built.

For those just starting out and you don't want to use up all your precious slaves try this. Build a outpost next to some mines then use the so called dreaded farmers market, mine shafts, herbalist, and some small statues (if you don't your overall entertainment will suffer). And if it is a big enough block build a saturn temple. Of course you will need pleb housing for each of these builds. If you do run low on slaves you can trade or raze barbarian villages (you can also not raze them and get an array of other materials or goods they produce). I hardly ever use slaves for work so I hope this helps.

I am unable to create army. Some issue with the top right corner icon which shows 0/0 or 32/32. Can some one help me with this, i have the required resources but this always keeps showing red or insufficient, whenever i try to recruit more.

Increase what?
If you mean available recruits build equites houses providing them with food, goods, and entertainment. Each equites house adds 10 to your available recruit count.

If you mean entertainment coverage adding additional taverns to the same area does not increase the entertainment number. You must add different buildings that increase entertainment - taverns, theater, inn, and arena; or add a coliseum which gives 100% entertainment satisfaction to its coverage area.

If you play the expansion pack first, you lvl up much faster as the campaign is much shorter. Then you can play the original missions with a fully experianced roman leader..

This will make the first campaign much easier to complete, but the side note, is you can make giant cities your first play through, vrs having to replay the entire game to do so. (you must have both games, Or atleast get the gold version to do this)

These videos will help: GAR training videos

I would start with the food and entertainment videos at the bottom of the first post then go from there.

RE: Hints and Tips for Grand Ages Rome
Something that I enjoy doing is having 4 squads of hastatii with two archers 1 triarii and 2 equestrii i use the equestri to draw enemy fire as they charge back into the suppourting army, hastatii then use the pilum ability and engage ground troops as my triarii will charge back and begin destroying the archer base at least until they begin firing on the triarii who go into the testudo formation at the same time as one equstrii is circling the battle and one flanks enemy cavalry men usually i have few casualties however when i do and am working through a battle focused campaign never underestimate the military camp or the hospital.

The military camp completely fills up a weakened military squad unless it is disbanded where the hospital will allow you to rebuild you lost squads. If your like me and make a personal connection with your legions for being so B.A then this is really helpful especially in stages where you have to defend an area for a time and your troops level up only for them to barely disband before the end of the battle losing the money one their training and needing to build another squad... its much better to use the hospital if you have the reign of Augustus expansion.

As far as military goes the auxila are very helpful but not super necessary especially if you like to build huge profits with trade posts it becomes a simple matter to import iron, otherwise they are very effective when fighting enemies of the same type, if you do not have secutores then building elephants to fight elephants can be a way to defend yourself IF NECCESARY, it is still better to use secutores they live longer and are cheaper than elephants.

When economy is involved I will use only a single slave market which supports several brickworks and my logging sheds allowing my to build more and upgrade them to produce the same as if a pleb was working them. When using this tactic I suggest that it is used only on what I suggest as food is important and the more you have the better in the beginning plebs are more effective, also minerals (stone, marble, gold, etc.) become very scarce when building large cities if you only use slaves in the process and can lead to stagnation. When you build a strong economy and only two squads of hastatii (drafted squad, 1 from barracks) are usually sufficient defense until you are strong enough to successfully build several squads to achieve the perfect army for you. A strong economy will outlast a strong army plus having the strong reasources can lead to an inflow of trade which I have taken advatage of in the past to lead me to gaining 3,000+ denarii per minute allowing me to trade for anything that I am lacking in.

In my final note I want to stress the use of roads. Roads are only useful for transferring military squads from place to place however if you place your buildings right and but the talent that builds roads for free you can build your city along your aqueducts allowing your city to 1. make sense and 2. several buildings gain you popularity bonuses if they are built on roads, such as the artisans market which actually produces MORE goods when it is located along a road.

Bona Fortuna to all of you I really enjoyed this game its a blast

probably the problem that youre facing is that you arent building any equite houses, this took me a while to figure out as well you need to build equites to provide entertainment and they work more in buildings such as the bakery or butcher shop and they are the only social class which give you more military population which is infinite as long as you can support it, however your plebs must be producing goods without which your equites will abandon you and it will suck... alot

in the build screen there is an atheistic option if you go into this area there is an option to build trees, if you need to rebuild lumber around you its very useful and effective
